REVIEW – “Keep up with your contacts without the cards!”
For years people have used simple business cards to keep track of and 
exchange contact information. Tool after tool has come along to try and make keeping track of them all easier. If you are constantly making new contacts and would like an easy way to keep all of their contact information somewhere without a Rolodex look no further than WorldCard Mobile!
Since the advent of the iPhone 3GS there have been several companies that have released business card scanning apps. The phone’s new auto-focus camera makes it possible to develop applications that can accurately read text. While it is possible that this app could 
work with an iPhone 3G, I would not recommend it unless you have some kind of case that helps you focus on text that is close to the phone.
Probably the single greatest feature of this app is how quick and easy it is to use! When you open up WorldCard Mobile it starts up almost instantly. Once it loads up all you have to do is press the “Start” button and take a picture of the business card that you’d like to use. There is a small delay when the camera loads up but it is not unusual by camera app standards.
Once you have taken your picture of the business card that you want to add you will be given the option to either use that photo or to try and take another one if it didn’t turn out like you wanted it to. Once you select a photo to use you are taken to a screen where you can select the language that you want to detect on the card (there are 7 languages supported), rotate the photo until it is right-side up, or
“Recognize” the text on the card once you are ready.
The recognition in this program was above average when compared to other similar apps. While it is obviously not perfect, it did get the majority of entries right when it was used to scan a business card with a simple layout. Even with some of the crazier business cards it was at least able to get some accurate information. I was very impressed that it was so accurate when the speed of this app is taken into consideration.
Another great feature of WorldCard Mobile is the data entry interface. Once you have scanned a business card you will be taken to a screen with all of the information that the app 
could detect on the business card. From here the interface is very similar to the iPhone’s “Contacts” app which makes it very easy to modify/add/remove entries if you need to. This was very refreshing after having used a few similar apps that tried to come up with their own interface and had difficulties.
There is one thing that I would liked to have seen some attention given to in this app. It
would have been really nice to have some form of business card management aspect within the app. While it does a great job of scanning business card photos and helping you enter their information in your contacts there is really no way to keep the images of the business cards themselves, or to keep a database of your business cards separate from your regular contact list.
With all of that said, if you are looking for an alternative to keeping paper copies of all your contacts WorldCard Mobile is not only one of the most accurate Business Card Scanners on the market, it is also one of the fastest.
