Do you love word games? Do you love being challenged? If you do, then you will love the iPhone app Words With Friends. It is a fun, challenging game that tests your skills against a friend. Similar to Scrabble, Words With Friends allows you to play against a random opponent or someone you know, all in real time. A friend recently asked if I had the game and I had never heard of it. She raved about how great it was so I thought I would try it out and now I am hooked!
To play, simply search for one of your friends either by their username or just click on them from your contacts and WWF will search the 
database for that player. Once a game is started, each player is given seven letter tiles. The person who starts the game gets to put down the first word and then it goes from there. When I first started playing the game, I didn’t realize that the games could literally go on for days… and I think that is why I like it so much. There is no pressure to hurry up and finish your turn and if you’re busy, the game waits
The main page of the app is arranged so that you have “Your Move”, “Their Move” and “Game Over”. Although WWF will push a notification to you to let you know when it is your move, you can also check it at any time and your current games will be arranged in order of the time that the last tile was played. The full version will allow you to have up to 20 games going at one time.
The game is played with ninety tiles on a board with 225 spaces. The “bonus” tiles are: double letter, double word, triple letter and triple word. The spaces make for some really great word placement and high scoring games. However, if you can’t handle the pressure, there is a resign button at the bottom of the game so at any time during your turn, you can choose to quit. But don’t quit because you have to go to work or the gym, these games last for as long as there are tiles to be played. My longest game so far has lasted about four days and my longest turn has lasted about 12 hours – oops! But I really don’t think that the people playing this game mind.
It is fun, addicting and a way to play a game with a friend who is miles away. If you don’t believe me, download the free version, but because I never did, I can’t say what the restrictions are. I downloaded, to my iphone, the free app “words with friends” so I could play it with my grandkids. For some reason my password got scrambled and all I get is “opps…password incorrect…try again”. When I try to reset the password it sends me to “Chess with friends” and advises me that I didn’t subscribe to Chess. What the heck can I do to correct this and start to enjoy this game with my grandkids. I have already tried deleting and re-installing the app…turning phone off and on again….NO LUCK. Help please
I downloaded the game last month. Since yesterday, when I click on it, it comes on the screen and then it disappears. How can I fix this?
Hi Mary, I’m having the same problem. I have the full version and I haven’t been able to play. Every time I click the app, it goes and says “updating” then the app quits and I go back to my homescreen. Annoying
I had the words w/ friends free app and loved it. Then it stopped working. The screen would say sending info and then boot me off. I paid for the full version, thinking I could get around the other issue, but it does the same thing. Very annoying that I can’t even play something I purchased. Deters me from buying any more apps from Apple, that’s for sure. How and when will this problem be fixed? Yes, I already deleted it and redownloaded it and booted up my phone. I have done everything I can think of.
i have had the same issue with the game closing out. I had to delete it then reinstall it then it worked fine. you dont lose any of your games at all. I have an issue with setting a password for it. i want to lock it so my 3 year old can not mess with it. He has been resigning games. does anyone know how to do that. I set a password but it doesnt ask for it when i open the app.
So far the game’s working fine for me, but I want to delete games where the opponent is no longer playhing or has resigned. How do I do that?
Buildergal, if you want to delete an old game, slide your finger across the listing of the game and the word ‘delete’ will show up, exactly how you would do it when you want to delete an email.
The directions for deleting an old game works for me if the game is over, but if a person hasn’t played, say for five days, the delete option doesn’t come up. Am I doing something wrong?
Is there anyway to delete a texted conversation during a game or do you just have to resign and then delete the whole game?
