Trap Master: Dragon’s Treasure – iPhone App Review

Trap Master: Dragon’s Treasure ($.99)

Version 1.2.1

REVIEW – “A simple little puzzle game that might leave you just a little frustrated.”

This game is by no means unique in its game play but it is designed rather well and it can get a bit challenging. In Trap Master: Dragon’s Treasure your goal is to well, collect treasure while at the same time avoiding traps.

The way the game works is that your character is placed on a grid and each time you tap in a direction it moves you one square in that direction. This allows you to gather treasure. But you have to be aware of numerous boulders heading your way and other traps that you have to avoid.

For some traps you get a warning with flashing arrows letting you know where they will be coming from and what direction they will be heading. For others it’s a bit of trial and error to figure out where exactly you shouldn’t step.

One of the unique features of the game is that it allows you three different ways to control the character (which are changed through the settings menu). You can either choose to tap the side that you want to move toward or you can choose to have a D-pad appear in the bottom left or the bottom right corner. This allows you to get the most comfortable controls in order to make sure your little guy lasts.

You might think this game gets a tad repetitive and in some ways it does but the traps change often enough and you are really kept on your toes enough that the repetitiveness does not keep you from playing the game.

The graphics are crisp and I really liked the character and the look of the background and the game board. The sounds were basic, the usual doom and gloom medieval soundtrack that just about every game of this style has, but that’s to be expected of course.

The game is rather long with a number of levels (thankfully you get a new life every five levels) and additional modes of play with survival mode and expert mode.

Like many new iPhone games this does work with OpenFeint for those who are fans, and for those who aren’t just opt out like always.

For $.99 it is a pretty decent game and can get a bit addictive, this is probably one that kids will enjoy as well especially since they might have better reflexes than I do, or be less greedy about risking life and limb for that shiny piece of treasure.

For those interested the game does have some storyline but the only way you ever find that out is by reading the app description, so if you are interested make sure you do so, but it really adds very little if anything to the game.
