A new year means a new you… and tax time. You can’t help but think that with the turning of that last page of your calendar, it’s a 
countdown to that dreaded day… April 15th. But as loathsome as it is to do your taxes, Turbo Tax has found yet another way to make your life easier: the newly released TaxCaster iPhone app is sure to keep the yelling and pen throwing at bay.
For those of you who attempt to do your taxes on your own, bravo. Me, I always pawn them off on my mom who, like everyone else, hates doing them, but because she’s so nice, she helps me out in whatever way she can. This year, however, it might be different. The TaxCaster app is easy to understand, easy to use and walks you through the steps. Unfortunately it will not actually submit your taxes for you, but it gives you more than a basic understanding of what you are trying to accomplish (other than get back that refund).
After you fill in the appropriate information, TaxCaster is a forecast of what, if any, your refund will be. Although there is no guarantee as to what your actual refund will be, either from the State or Federal, TaxCaster is an accurate and appropriate tool to use. You can fill in and save the information at any time and get an idea of whether you will owe money or you have some coming back to you… this might also prompt you to hurry up and finish your taxes so you can go on a vacation.
Once you are in TaxCaster, the information is simple. Make sure that you have your W2 or whatever tax documents that you base your income off of. Simply go through each of the screens and fill out the requested information. Some of the questions are simple and require little to no work, especially the 
first page: are you married? Head of the household? Age? Total Income? and Deductions, Credits & Payments which lead you into another screen with the breakdown of your house, donations, retirement, other tax payments, education, family and other deductions.
Each line that requires more information will lead you to a new screen. When there are monetary values that are required, TaxCaster has an easy to use scroll bar that allows you to slide up to the dollar amount. There was nothing about this app that I found hard, confusing or difficult, but, if for some reason, something doesn’t make sense, there is an info button at the bottom that has instructions and additional information on each section.
If I haven’t convinced you yet, this is the last piece of advice that I have: it’s free, it’s easy and it won’t give you a headache. Let’s be honest, no one likes doing their taxes. If nothing else, it’s a hassle and when you have to look at where all that money is NOT going, it kind of sucks. But TaxCaster is here to help.
