Sports Car Engines – App Review

Sports Car Engines ($2.99)

Version – 2.0

REVIEW – “Beauty meets beast with this great app for car lovers!”

If you’re a serious car fanatic you know how great it is to just sit and listen to a well maintained and finely tuned driving machine. You also know that the sound that you hear from a little Toyota Camry and the sound you hear from Porche or a BMW are entirely different things. If you want to be able to hear car engines that you may never see in person, and certainly won’t ever own yourself you should definitely check out Sports Car Engines!

When you open the app the first thing you’ll see is a list of car makers. This list is full of all kinds of different manufacturers from mass-producers like Ford, Chevy, and Toyota, all the way up to some of the more exclusive manufacturers like Porche, Lamborghini, and Bugatti. At the top of the screen you’ll notice a small arrow on the right side of the screen. Touching this arrow will switch to a second screen with a few more manufacturers that wouldn’t all fit on just one screen.

The interface is extremely simple for this app. To get started all you have to do is touch the auto maker that you want to view cars for and it will take you to a new screen with all of the cars available for that maker. Sometimes all of the cars won’t fit on one screen and this is handled in the same way as the makers on the home screen; by giving you an arrow to scroll to the secondary page.

The individual car pages consist of a few things. You’ll see a photo of the car with the model name, a few basic stats, and a couple of buttons for controlling the playback of the engine sounds. To be honest I’m not sure why they didn’t just make one “Play/Pause” button instead of making it two buttons, but it really doesn’t make any difference.

The quality of the sounds in this apps is decent for the most part. I did notice a few times when listening to them that there was some clipping in a few of the sound files. With that said, the majority of them are good, and you can definitely tell a distinct difference in all the different engine sounds. I also noticed that a few of the sounds were not as loud as others, and you don’t always get to hear the engine get started. With that said though, it is obvious that the sounds are authentic and that will be good enough for most car enthusiasts!

As if all of this wasn’t enough to get you hooked, this app is currently on sale for just $0.99! I am not sure how long the sale will last, so if this app seems like it would be even remotely interesting I would encourage you to grab it today before it jumps back up to $2.99! The developers have stated that they will continue to add more content to this app in the future and they have a track record of doing so in the past. so what are you waiting for? If you are a car nut the head to the App Store and check out Sports Car Engines today!
