Review – “Streamline your browsing experience!”
The iPad is truly a remarkable device for mobile internet browsing, but what if it were possible to open more than one window at the same time? Well now that’s possible thanks to SplitBrowser by Elastic Fiction! SplitBrowser is an app that literally allows you to divide your iPad’s screen in half, and use the two halves to browse totally separate websites!
SplitBrowser starts up fairly quickly and can be easily viewed in Portrait or Landscape mode. At the top of the screen you’ll see that the browser bar has been divided in two. The left bar is used to 
control the left screen, or the top screen if you are in portrait mode. the right bar is used to control the right screen, or the bottom screen.
The controls are fairly basic. You have forward and back buttons, a bookmarks button, and stop and refresh buttons. Navigating to a webpage is simple. You can either type the web address in one of the bars at the time, or type a search query and it will automatically be searched in Google!
Adding/editing bookmarks is very simple as well. To add a bookmark all you have 
to do is navigate to the page you want to mark, touch the bookmark icon, and then touch the “+” button in the upper left corner of the pop-up box. You can also edit all your bookmarks by touching the “edit” button in the upper right corner of that same box. This is simple enough, but could use a little more polish. There is not really any way to change existing bookmarks, rename them, or sort them as of the latest update.
Browsing with SplitBrowser is surprisingly speedy. Even when loading up graphic-intensive sites in both windows like ESPN.com, nytimes.com, and cnn.com! The app fully supports multitouch, meaning you can be doing something completely separate in different windows. The only limitation that I noticed as far as multitasking is concerned is that you can’t play more than one video at the same time, not that most people would probably want to.
Another really great thing about this app is the ability to resize your windows. A really cool way to take advantage of this in landscape mode is to browse a mobile-optimized site like Facebook in a smaller window, while using your other window to browse full websites. Resizing the 
windows is simple. All you have to do is touch and hold the black bar in between them until it turns gray and then drag it wherever you want it!
As far as I could tell while browsing, this app offers a full Safari browsing experience, just two windows at once! Besides the bookmarks that I mentioned earlier there are not a lot of limitations in this app. One thing to keep in mind is that while you can browse two windows at once with this
app, there is no built in functionality for opening up more pages than that like there is in Safari. In all honesty, with two different windows open I didn’t even notice this until I had been using this app for quite a while.
So to sum all of this up, if you’ve been looking for a better way to surf the web, SplitBrowser could be the answer you’re looking for! The developers at Elastic Fiction have done a great job of allowing making it work in different orientations, and it even plays video inline just like Safari does. If you find yourself wishing that there was a quicker way to view multiple websites, this is an app that you really can’t afford to pass up! So what are you waiting for?
