REVIEW – “Unique concept is a winner!”

This game has been out for several months, but the developer just added a global high score list allows you to compete with people all around the world!  Spikey’s Bounce around is a game where you must free a bunch of butterflies.  While this may sound dumb at first, the game will quickly grown on you because it is both easy to learn but at the same time very difficult to master.

When I opened this game up for the first time my first impression was that the graphics were a little cheesy.  Once you really get into the game though they definitely add to the feel that the developer was aiming for.  Everything from the games menu’s to the characters and backgrounds is extremely simple but sharp looking.

The main menu offers you two real options, a “Start” button to start the game and an “Options” menu.  There is also a “more games” button but that simply opens up a web browser with a webpage that has information on other games by Donut Games.  The menu contains a few basic options, as well as a global high score list in the “Options” menu, but unfortunately there are no controls in this game for sound.

Once you start the actual game you will select the level that you want to play.  Every time you finish a level you unlock a new one until all of the levels are unlocked.  On the level select screen you will notice a “Total” in the upper right corner which will show your total score for all of the levels that you have completed.  This is the score that is used to compete with other users in the global high score list.

Not only will you see your total score in the level select list, but you also will see your score for each individual level on the left side underneath the levels name.  The first few levels are extremely easy and the further you get into the game the more difficult they are.  The basic concept for gameplay is that you touch the screen in the direction that you want to send “Spikey” flying.  There are various different types of walls and objects that Spikey will either stick too or bounce off and gain extra momentum!

The further you get into the game the more objects are introduced, and some of the levels even get larger.  While all of the levels at the beginning will fit on your screen, as you get further into the game there are some levels that are huge!  Some of the different objects that you will see are things like bees and spike balls that will kill you; as well as different types of objects that hold up the butterflies that you are trying to free!

If I were to sum this game up in just one word it would be surprising.  As I mentioned before my first impression o f this game was that it was cheesy and that it was probably going to be better suited for a younger audience.  I was definitely wrong there, and the more I play this game the more I continue to be surprised at just how much fun it is, and also with how often I find myself going back to it.  If you are looking for a cheap game that will help you kill some time, you should definitely give this one a look!
