REVIEW – “Classic airborne dueling on your mobile device!”
I remember in junior high that one of my favorite types of games were the old war dog fighting ones. It was just do much fun flying around in chaos trying to both stay airborne and also manage to take out your opponents! Well if a game like that sounds exciting for your iPhone or iPod touch then you really need to check out Skies of Glory!
Before we get any further I’d like to make something clear. While this game is a free download the game itself is not designed as a free game. What the developer has done is create kind 
of a “try-before-you-buy” format. When you download Skies of Glory you will be able to play through the tutorial and one mission in single player mode. This is designed to allow you to get a feel for the game before you actually dish out any money for it.
Once you actually get IMO gameplay the story flows just like you would expect it to in a game of this type. You are a fighter pilot and you work your way up the ranks as you defend your bases and destroy enemy strongholds. 
The graphics and sound in this game are really superb. With that said, where this game shines is clearly in the gameplay itself. While a lot of different types of games tend to feel clumsy and are often difficult to adjust to, the controls for this game feel natural and actually enhanced gameplay for me!
Once you actually get into a plane and start flying there are several things that you need to know. The throttle is controlled with the two arrow buttons in the upper right corner. All of 
the planes movements are controlled by tilting the device and the buttons at the bottom of the screen control the flaps and machine guns. At the top of the screen you will see two gauges all of the time that will show you your altitude and current speed.
The main downside of this game is the cost. While it is free to try out it quickly starts adding up if you decide you would like to buy some of the premium content. With that said it is really only expensive by “App Store” standard, 
plus the good thing about the way it is being marketed is that you can buy only the content that you are interested in.
In all there are a total of 10 levels and almost 100 dogfight missions that you can purchase and all of them bundles together adds up to about $10. In addition to the new levels you can also purchase new planes as well! While I would say that a lot of the new planes you can purchase are kind of expensive, they can also add a lot of replay value.
I would like to sum up this review by saying that I think anyone who enjoys playing a lot of games on their iPhone or iPod touch should at least try thus game out! Whether you are a hardcore gamer or just looking for something to kill some time, this game is definitely worth a look. Download it from the App Store today!
