REVIEW – “Take a virtual sketchbook with you wherever you go!”
For artists this is a truly great app because it really allows you to do just about anything you would like to do with a normal sketchpad with pencils and paints, but also so much more. Sketchbook Mobile allows you to work with a variety of brushes and even layers so that you can create works of art that are similar to what you could create on a computer.
I was very impressed with how fluid and easy the strokes were and while I may not be much of an artist, I did have a great deal of fun experimenting with all the different brushes. When you first start out the app takes you through all the different buttons and features of the app which was nice because I would have been completely lost.
The nice thing about the app is that it keeps all the buttons and tools off the main screen and they are accessed by touching a small circle at the bottom of the screen. This allows you to see the entire screen and really work with it as you would a blank piece of paper.
Once you access the tools you can choose between a variety of brushes from airbrushes to regular brushes to pencils, just about anything you need to create a unique piece.
You can then choose from a number of different colors by going to the color palette. It offers you a number of basic colors but if you do not see what you like you can go to the wheel and create your own color. That is one of many things that are great about this app, you can customize everything from the brushes to the layers, so it really felt more like a computer art program rather than a mini version for the iphone.
I was truly impressed by the way that this app was put together with extra little features which made it more fun and interesting. There is even a symmetry feature where you can make sure that everything you do to one side gets repeated on the other.
Artists will fall in love with this app and it is definitely easier than carrying around a sketchpad and pencils.
