Sometimes there’s nothing more frustrating than trying to give someone directions over the phone. If you find yourself constantly trying to send and receive directions, you may want to check out easyFinder! easyFinder makes it extremely easy send location information that can be viewed on any phone with access to Google Maps!

When you open up easyFinder the first thing you’ll see is a dialer much like the phone app. You’ll want to set things up first, and you do that by touching the little “i” button in the upper right corner. There is some basic information that will be used to generate the text that will be sent to your recipients.

Once you get everything setup it takes just a few seconds to send your coordinates to someone. You can either type in a phone number, or get one from your contacts list by touching the phonebook button on the left side of the screen.

If you want to send a message in addition to your coordinates you can either change the “Position” message in the setup options or you can create a custom message by turning your device sideways and typing in whatever it is you want it to say. Once you’re ready all you have to do to generate the message and link is touch the “Position” button. The “to” field will be automatically filled in with whatever number you chose within the app.

While sending your coordinates will work with any phone with a web browser and access to Google Maps, the “Request” feature requires the other party to have the easyFinder app running on their device. When you choose a number and touch the “Request” button it will send that person a link that will open up easyFinder on their phone and automatically fill in your phone’s number so they can send you where they are quickly!

If you even think that this app may be something you would be interested then you should really check it out. The app is very simple to use and it worked for me without any kinks whatsoever! That combined with the fact that it’s currently free and might not stay that way make this a great time to grab it up as well!

Kemba – personal journal (Free)

Review – “Keep a personal journal with a unique twist!”

Kemba is a journal that not only helps you keep track of your thoughts, but it also helps you keep them organized! People that journal write about all kinds of things, they write about their experiences as mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and as participants in all kinds of activities and hobbies. What if there was a way to keep track of how much time you spend writing about different parts of your life? Well with Kemba (a sort of acronym for “KEep Me BAlanced”) you can do that and more with an easy to use interface on your mobile device!

The first thing you’ll need to do when you open up Kemba for the first time is set up your “roles.” These are the different aspects of your life that you want to post about and keep track of. You can have anywhere from just a couple of broad ones, or you can choose to really micro-manage things down into up to 14 different categories, each with it’s own unique color code.

Once you get your roles set up you’re ready to start journaling! To write a new post you just touch the “New” tab at the bottom of the screen. You’ll need enter a title for your post and it will automatically track when you start and end your post to figure out how much time you spend on it.

Once you’ve finished a post you can add up to 4 images to your post. Unfortunately you can’t just snap pictures from directly within the app. This is not a huge deal, but being a journal app it would be nice to have a way to just snap a quick picture to add to your post. Once you have your post finished you’ll need to enter in which “role” your post is most closely related to and then touch the “Save” button in the upper right corner of the screen.

Over time and as you accumulate more posts Kemba’s graphs will get more accurate. The idea is that with time you’ll find out where your true priorities lie. While you may want to think that you spend the most time on certain activities, you may find your life completely dominated by some of the more trivial things in your life! The graphs break down not only how many posts you create for each “Role,” but also how much time you spend writing them.

While I’ve never been a big “journaler” myself, this app manages to take a fresh approach that uses journaling to help set your priorities. While the app is free to try out, if you really want to get the most out of this app you’ll probably want to spring for the full version which can be bought via in-app purchase. While this may seem a little pricey, if you really want this app to be a help in setting your priorities, $4.99 is hardly going to break the bank. So what are you waiting for? Balance Your Life App (Free)

Review – “Check your priorities with a simple app!”

One thing that pretty much everyone struggles with at one time or another is setting priorities! How do we fit everything into our schedules and still manage to put enough emphasis on the things that are important? Well while an app in itself is not going to make you change your priorities, the Balance Your Life App is designed to help you assess them!

The interface is pretty simple. When you open up the app you’re taken to the main list. To add items to your priority list all you have to do is touch the “+” button in the upper right corner of the screen. You’ll be taken to a form that will allow you to add an item from a template, or to add a custom item if you want to.

Some of the template’s that you’ll see are for things like education, family, friends and Job. One thing I did find a bit odd is that there were no categories built-in for religion/God. With that said, I did find that most of the categories that I needed were there, you just won’t find a lot of extremely specific category’s.

In addition to setting your list of priorities you also need to set a certain “point” value to each item. This will help you figure out which things you are spending the most time doing. Not only will you see how many points each item has, but you’ll also see the percentages of how much of your time as a whole they are taking up!

To edit your list of categories just touch the button in the upper right corner labeled “Edit.” You can then delete any item by touching the little “-” button to the left and touching the “Delete” button.

If priorities are something you struggle with, then you know that they can be a big deal! If you’ve been looking for a good way to figure out what things you need to focus on in your own life, you may want to check out this app. Best of all the app is totally free! Tap ‘n Cap ($0.99)

I’m a cat person, myself.  I’ve had a few dogs over the years, and I think they’re nice enough, but I still prefer cats.  As such, the frequent pictures and videos of cats you find on the internet are great, and it’s probably no surprise that I visit a few lolcat sites when I’ve got a few spare minutes.

The one thing I’ve always wondered is how they make those lolcat pictures.  I mean, I assume they use MS Paint or something, open a picture and add in text, but it seems like more effort than it’s worth, just to put humorous captions on pictures of cats.  I’d have to take a picture of my cat, transfer it to my computer, open MS Paint, and type something witty.

… OK, so that’s not so difficult, but I’m a busy man!  I’ve got things to do and little time at home to make my lolcats.  That’s where Tap ‘n Cap comes in, putting all your lolcat-related work into one easy package.  Or, of course, your non-lolcat picture captioning work, too.

The program itself allows you to either take a picture from within the app itself, using your iPhone’s camera or select a picture from your photo gallery (making it useful on your iPad, too) and adding text before saving it or emailing it to friends.  Easy as 1-2-3.

That’s really all there is to it.  It’s one of the most simple, straightforward apps I’ve used in a long time.  It’s very intuitive; once you’ve selected your picture to edit, tap the “Caption” buton to ad a text box and type it in using the standard keyboard.  Once you’ve got your text, touch it to change the font (select from one of 2o fonts) or use two fingers to move, re-size and rotate the text.  Once you’ve finished with your masterpiece, just press “Finished” to save or mail it.

I’m also impressed with how well the fonts take to scaling.  I didn’t notice any pixellation on my iPhone 4 until the text was about double in size, and future updates promising high resolution fonts should mean that you can get them even larger soon.

With this simplicity comes a few small problems, however; once you’ve saved a photo, you can no longer edit it.  That’s not a huge deal, especially for something as simple as adding captions, but it beats starting over.  Naturally, it doesn’t overwrite the original photo, although if using a photo taken in-app you have to specify in the settings that you want to save the original.  As such, you’re in no danger of losing the original, but if you misspell something (unintentionally – we ARE talking lolcats, after all) you have to go back and re-create it.

The other issues are all minor features it would be nice to have that aren’t currently present.  These are things like being able to rotate the picture, scale or crop the picture, uploading the images to photo services or social networking sites and the like.  Fortunately, all of these things are minor and do not detract at all from the core functionality.  Better yet, all of these things are promised additions in future updeates!

As such, this app does everything it promises, it does it well and it’ll do more in the future.  If you need to get your lolcatting done, I can’t think of a better way to do it.

Toy Physics HD ($3.99)

Review – “Fast-paced physics game brought to the iPad platform!”

One genre of games that definitely benefits from the iPad’s larger screen are puzzle games. Especially games like Toy Physics! The extra screen space allows there to be a lot more going on at the same time. The basic idea of Toy Physics is that you have to get the toys to fall into the boxes. You do this by touching and dragging on the screen to create little platforms that can hold up and direct the toys where they need to go!

When you open up Toy Physics you’re greeted by some music and a menu with 3 buttons on it. The first thing I did was check out the “Instructions” which show you basically how the game works and what to do. I would recommend just jumping into the game though because it’s pretty easy to get figured out!

Once you select “Play” you’ll be taken to a screen where you can specify what difficulty level you want to play on. There are three difficulty levels (easy, medium, and hard) to choose from and they make the game harder basically by increasing the amount of toys that you have to get into crates!

In order to win a level you have to get the specified number of toys into boxes, while not letting three of them get past you. As you get further into the game the toys will fall more quickly and you’ll have more obstacles getting in your way!

the graphics of this game, while not absolutely stunning, surely do add to the feel of the game, and the physics engine is also pretty good as well. As you finish levels you’ll get a “score” based on how many objects you let get through your defenses. If you are perfect you get 3 stars, if you miss one you get 3 stars and if you miss two then you get just 1 star.

Overall this is one of the few games I’ve played in a while that really feels unique. The gameplay is fun and very smooth as well. One thing that would be nice though is there was some kind of scoring besides just how many “stars” you get when you beat the level. I was also a little bit surprised that the app is not linked to any social network such as OpenFeint or GameCenter.

Despite having a few relatively small problems this is an app that is definitely a lot of fun. And while $3.99 may seem a little expensive, it’s most certainly not bad at all for an iPad app of this nature. So what are you waiting for? Almost DSLR ($1.99)

Review – “Take full advantage of your iOS camera!”

So you’ve heard all the talk about how great the camera’s are in the iPhone 4 and the new iPod touch? And then you saw the app that you use to actually take the pictures! While it is simple to use, certain parts of it are kind of slow and there are not very many options to customize it. If you’ve been looking for a way to really take control of the great camera in your device you might want to check out “Almost DSLR!”

The first thing I really noticed about this app is that it loads very quickly, even a little faster than the default iOS app. Once the app is loaded up you’ll see a menu full of options on the left side, two buttons for taking pictures and video at the bottom, and a small row of buttons in the upper right corner of the screen.

The app adjust quickly if you tilt it to the side, and all of the buttons remain in the same general area of the screen in landscape mode. If you’re using an iPhone 4 or a 4th generation iPod Touch you can also switch cameras by touching the button in the upper right corner of the screen.

If you touch the settings icon on the right side of the screen you’ll be able to set the camera to a variety of different quality settings. Depending on your device the settings are slightly different. For example, the iPhone 4′s maximum resolution for video is 1280×720, while the 3GS can only shoot 640×480.

There are a few other options in the settings menu that allow to set how the “Focus” and “Exposure” controls work. Basically the way that the app works is you touch something on the screen it will focus on the area. In addition if you double tap something on the screen, the app will set it’s exposure to the area of the screen that you select. In the option screen you have to ability to set whether the Focus and Exposure stay set at what you select, or if they continue to auto-adjust after you move the device.

Overall there plenty of features in this app to keep most users happy. You can set your devices LED flash to be a camera flash, or a torch. You can also Turn Focus and Exposure lock on/off, and turn the “grid” that helps you line up your pictures on or off as well!

My favorite features of this app though have to be just how quickly this app loads and that it has the ability to take pictures and to take video with the press of just one button! There is no sliding a button to the side to switch between video and photos!

Unfortunately, as good as this app is, every app has it’s faults. The main thing that really disappointed me is that “Almost DSLR” lacks a digital zoom feature. While there is a button in the upper right corner menu that allows you to select what kind of screen resolution you want, there is really not a way to zoom way in on something far away get good pictures.

All things aside, I really think that this app is going to replace the built-in iOS camera app for many people. the speed, and added features will not only allow you to take pictures more quickly, but it will also help you to take higher-quality pictures in bad lighting as well!

iDrink4Free ($0.99)

Review – “Fool your friends into buying you a drink!”

Whether you spend a lot of time in the bar, or you just want a few nifty tricks to show your friends, iDrink4Free is a very interesting app. The basic idea is that it has a variety of “parlor tricks” that you can perform to trick people into buying you a drink.

The “Home” screen of this app is a list of all of the available tricks. Each trick shows up in the list with it’s title, and the beginning of its “ITEMS NEEDED” list. Once you find a trick that you think might be interesting all you have to do is touch it. You’ll be taken to a screen where you can read exactly how to perform the trick.

In the upper right corner of each trick you’ll see a “+” button that will allow you to add it to your “favorites” list. Just below that button are buttons for sharing the trick with your friends via facebook/email, or for sharing where on the map you were when you successfully used the trick!

The menu at the bottom of the screen has two other options. You can choose to view a “Random” trick, or view your list of “Favorites!” Not only can you view your list of favorites though, you can actually manage it from this screen as well. To delete items off of this list all you have to do is swipe the one you want to remove to the right and then touch the “Delete” button that appears.

There is a decent amount of variety in the tricks in this app. Some of them are pretty in depth and difficult, while some of the others are simple enough that someone would probably have to be pretty drunk for them to work. With that said I did have a lot of fun testing out a few of them at home!

The app author also threw a little bit of a social aspect to it by allowing you to send in your location and a comment when you successfully use a trick! To view everyone else’s comments and their locations when they sent them all you have to do is touch the little globe icon in the upper right corner of the screen and you’ll be taken to a map.

While obviously there isn’t a whole lot to this app, it’s only $0.99, and it definitely had some interesting things to try out. Whether you really are a bar-hopper, or you just want some neat tricks to try out on your friends iDrink4Free is definitely an app to be taking a look at. So what are you waiting for? Mortgage Calculator – The Amortizer ($0.99)

Whether you’re looking to buy a new house, or you’re looking at refinancing a property, wouldn’t it be great to be able to figure out what a loan would look like anywhere on your phone? Well now you can with a $0.99 app called “Mortgage Calculator – The Amortizer” for the iOS!

The app itself is pretty simple. To calculate the costs of a loan just touch the “+” button in the upper right corner of the screen and fill out the information that you see on the screen.  You’ll need to enter the purchase amount, down payment, interest rate, loan term, etc., and then touch the “Calculate” button in the upper right corner of the screen to figure out the costs associated with the proposed loan.

In addition to calculating the actual mortgage cost, you can also add in your escrow as well to get a more accurate number. To do that just touch the “Add Escrow Cost” button at the bottom of the loan information screen. You can then enter in each cost that is a part of your escrow individually, or you can add the total amount of your current escrow if you choose.

The loan breakdown that you get once you’ve calculated it offers a variety of interesting information. It calculates the total interest that you’ll pay on the loan, the total amount that you will pay on the loan if it goes as scheduled, and a breakdown of how much you will pay each month towards the interest and principal of the loan!

Another great feature of the app is the ability to generate PDF’s of the loan information and email them to anyone! To do this just touch the “Email PDF” button in the upper right corner of the screen. You’ll get the choice of whether or not to include the amortization schedule or not, and then you’ll be taken directly to a form email with the PDF attached to it.

My personal experience with this app is that it made it very easy to get quick figures on what a loan will cost you. Unfortunately what it does not have is a way to calculate what it will cost you to refinance a loan. With that said, the app is only $0.99, and the PDF email feature is a great way to share loan figures with people while on the go. Audio Class Notes Free

Review – “Take notes the easy way for free!”

I found that one of the most irritating things in college was trying to keep up with some of my professors taking notes. There’s just so much information in some classes that sometimes it’s hard to decide what you need to write down. If you have one of those classes you may want to check out Audio Class Notes Free on your iPhone or iPod Touch!

When you open up the app the first thing you’ll see is a menu with three options. You can “Record a new file,” “Play A Recorded File,” or view and edit preferences in the “Options” menu. Inside the options menu you’ll see buttons to select the recording quality, remove all data from the app, and to add/remove “Classes” which is how all of your recordings are organized!

Once you’re ready to start recording you’ll need to make sure you’ve set up the class that you’re recording notes for, and then touch the “Record a new file” button. To start recording just touch the “Record” button in the upper left corner. At any time you can pause recording, or when you’re finished just touch the stop button stop and save it. You’ll be asked for a name for the recording, and if you don’t give it one then it will be named “Recording #?”.

Once you’ve recorded your class notes to review them later just touch the “Play A Recorded File” button. You’ll be given a list of all the files that you currently have. You can remove items from the list by swiping and touching the “Delete” button that comes up, or by touching the “Delete Mode” button in the lower right corner and using the “-” buttons to the left of the recordings.

To play a recording just touch it and you’ll open the the playback screen. From here you can not only listen to your recordings, but you can also tag certain parts so that you can quickly find them later. This is extremely easy to do, my only comment would be that there really needs to be a way to delete “tags” just in case you add one in a place where you didn’t want it, or you named it wrong.

All things aside this is a very useful app, and I was very impressed with how well this app was able to pick up people’s voices, even at a distance. Best of all though it’s totally free! The only thing you’ll have to deal with are the ads that you see at the top of the screen. They are not obtrusive though, and if you choose to view them they are Apple’s new “iAds” so you don’t have to leave the app to check them out!

If you’ve been looking for a voice recording app similar to this one, there is no reason that you shouldn’t at least give this a try. While there may be apps out there with a few extra “bells and whistles,” it is very doubtful that you’ll be able to find a better, easier to use app than this one for free. The “Changes and Updates at a glance” feature is great, if you’re interested in knowing what has recently been updated, or want to ignore updates and focus on new releases only. Seeing as this app is free, there is no reason we cannot recommend this app.

Math Pro ($1.99)

Review – “Ace that next math test with the help of Math Pro!”

In a category that is perhaps overly dominated with games for young children, Larry Feldman has developed an app to help those that are struggling in their high-school math classes! This app is designed to not only help you get the right answers, but to help you learn and understand what you’re doing as well!

When you open up Math Pro you’ll be presented with a list of Math classes to choose from. You’ll see that Math Pro covers everything from Algebra 1 up to Calculus. To get started just touch one of the math topics and you’ll see a list of information to choose from.

Some of the various screens that you’ll see are full of information on how a particular kind of problem works. Sometimes this is done by just filling the screen with text and diagrams, while other times there will be buttons that you can press to bring up pop-up boxes with more information.

There are also screens, such as the “Two Points” screen in the Algebra 1 section that have boxes that you can fill in to see the answer to a particular type of problem. All you have to do is fill in the boxes and then touch the “Graph” button to see the results immediately!

While I never took classes like Calculus in high school, from what I could tell the information in this app looked pretty accurate. While there is not really any “search” function, and sometimes it can be a little difficult to find the information you’re looking for, if you’re the kind of person that learns by example, this is an app that you really shouldn’t pass up!

While $1.99 may seem a little bit expensive by App Store standards, if this app is really able to help you get better grades I’m sure you’ll find that the purchase was worth it! There’s not a lot of “flash” to this app, but the information is there, and the interface is simple. So what are you waiting for? ToucHotel (Free)

Review – “Find and book hotel rooms from your phone!”

Do you travel a lot? If so you’d probably be happy to have an easy way to book hotel rooms without talking to a hotel representative! ToucHotel uses an extremely basic search feature to quickly connect you with hotels in the area that you’ll be staying in!

When you open up ToucHotel you’ll see a search bar at the top of the screen. Below that search bar is a list of all of your recent searches if you have any yet. To find a hotel in your area all you have to do is type the name of the city in the search bar at the top of the screen. Once you do a list of matching results will show up below, and all you have to do is touch one of them to view all of the hotels in that city!

When you touch a city to search inside you’ll be taken to a screen with two scroll-wheels. You can use these to select what day you’ll be arriving and how many days you plan on staying. Once you have it all set up just touch the “Search Hotels” button at the bottom of the screen.

One thing that I noticed pretty quickly with this app is that there is no way to specify what state you are searching for a city in. For example; there are 39 “Springfield”‘s in the United States, but if you search for Springfield you’ll only be shown results for one of them.

With that said, if you do find a hotel that you’re interested in the city you’re aiming for all you have to do is touch it to bring up a screen full of information on it. At the top of this screen is a picture (which you can click on to see more), the name of the hotel, the Hotel’s rating, and four buttons to access info about the hotel, a map of where it is, photos and to share information on the hotel with someone!

At the bottom of every hotel screen you’ll see a list of room types that are available with their current price. Touching any of them will bring up a confirmation screen that will tell you everything about the room and offer a link to a page where you can actually book the room! All you’ll have to do is enter a name and a credit/debit card to reserve the room, so do that and then touch the “Book now” button at the bottom of the screen.

My overall impressions of this app were that it is very easy to pick up and use quickly. However, if you have difficulty locating the right hotel(s) in the right cities there is not really any way to do an “advanced search.” You’ll just have to scroll through the results until you can find what you’re looking for!

All things said, the app is free, and does do what it claims to do! If you’ve been looking for the easiest/quickest way to book a room this may be what you’re looking for. If; however, you’re looking for an extremely powerful tool to locate and compare hotel rooms worldwide you may find the search features in this app slightly frustrating.  With that said, it is very simple to use and it’s available for free in the App Store today!

Review – “Count your steps as you work out!”

If you’ve got a regular workout routine and stairs are something that are included in it, you may want to check out iStair. iStair is an app that will count how many steps you’ve taken for you! How does it accomplish this you ask? Through the use of the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer!

When you open up this app you’re taken straight to the main screen. At the top you’ll see a large number that shows how many steps you’ve taken, and just below is a “Reset” button and a “i” button. To use the app you’re supposed to just hold it in your hand as you walk up the stairs. I was kind of expecting the app to ask me to just put it in my pocket, but holding it makes more sense if you really want an accurate count!

At any time you can restart your step count by touching the “Reset” button. Touching the “i” button will bring up a screen that describes how to properly use the app. There is also a “Sensitivity’ meter here as well. By default the meter is set in the middle and is set at the ideal sensitivity, based on an average person’s step.

There’s not really much else to this app, but it does what it’s designed to do well.  If you’re workout routine regularly includes steps (whether on a machine or on real steps) you may want to check out iStair.  This app can make keeping track of your workout as easy as holding your phone as you walk! If you use your iPhone to take and manipulate photos then you may be interested in what CineCrop has to offer. This app is developed by Kert Gartner and the concept behind it is simple.. take your photos and apply different cinematic aspect ratios to them to give them that cinema appearance. Let’s take a look..

When you first open the app it defaults to your photo library so that you can choose a photo that you are interested in adding a cinema effect to. After you choose your photo it goes to the main window where you can pick your crop ratio, apply the crop, go into settings, and find out application information.

You can choose your crop and then hit Apply to crop the image (which creates a new image and does not overwrite the original). You can also hit the long button on the bottom left in order to change the ratio where some of your options are High Definition TV, iPhone Full Screen, etc. You can hit the wrench and go into the Settings where you can rotate the image and even flip flop the image. By hitting the ‘i’ button you can find out more information about the Aspect Ratio or even check out the CineCrop Manual.

Once you hit Crop the next screen gives you the option to either Save or Undo. Saving the image actually gives you two options .. which is to save in to your library or to send it out in an email.

Simple enough? While this app is very simple and easy to use it can also come in handy if you are interested in a way to quickly and easily apply these types of crops to your images. If you are interested in checking this app out, head on over to the App Store today.

Sound Sleep (Free)

Review – “Improve your sleep with Sound Sleep!”

Whether you are suffering with insomnia, or you just want the time you spend sleeping to be more effective you may want to check out Sound Sleep. The app uses sound effects that have a “subliminal” effect on your mind to help you sleep.

The app itself is pretty simple. When you open it up you’ll see a timer at the top of the screen. You can set the amount of time that the sounds will play by touching the “Set Time” button just below the timer. You can also set the volume of the “subliminal” sounds here as well.

You have the choice to listen to music of your own while you listen to the sleep sounds. To create a list of songs to play while you fall asleep all you have to do is touch the button in the upper right corner of the screen. You’ll be taken to a screen that will show your current list of songs to play.

To add songs to your playlist just touch the “+” button in the upper right corner of the screen. You’ll be able to search through all of your playlist and also scan through your songs by title, artist, etc.. Once you’ve added songs to your playlist you can remove them at any time by swiping the screen over the song you want to remove and touching the “Delete” button.

Throughout all of these screens you’ll see a bar at the bottom of the screen that contains a play/pause button, and both a forward and a back button. The music and sound effects will even keep playing if you exit the app as long as you have iOS 4 installed on your device!

In addition to everything else, there are actually 3 different “sound” settings for sleep sounds to choose from. You can access these different settings by touching the button in the lower left corner of the screen. There are two of them designed for sleep induction and one that is designed to help you fall asleep when you are wide awake.

All other things aside, apps that use “subliminal” sounds to help induce sleep, lose weight, etc. are going to have different results on different people. The app is very easy to use though and the ability to use your own music and keep it playing when you exit the app are nice touches. Iris Photo Suite ($0.99)

Review – “Create great looking photos directly from your iPhone!”

One of the most popular genres in the iTunes App Store is photography. The iPhone’s camera app can take some pretty decent pictures, but it lacks any extra filters or color modification abilities. Iris Photo Suite is an attempt to compile a variety of editing features that all work natively on the phone. This allows you to quickly try out several different effects because none of them are performed on servers across an internet connection!

When you open up Iris Photo Suite it gets right to the point. You’ll see three large buttons: “Edit,” “Click,” and “Restore.” Touching the edit button will open up your photo albums where you can select a photo to get started. Touching the “Click” button will open up the camera so that you can take a picture to start with. Touching “Restore” will open up the photo that you had open the last time you used the app.

Once you decide on the photo that you’d like to edit you’re taken to the main editing screen. There is a toolbar both above and below the photo that you have chosen. At the top of the screen there are four buttons. These buttons will allow you to edit the photo’s colors, brightness, highlights and shadows. Basically any minor adjustments that have to do with color, brightness, sharpness or contrast are done using these buttons.

One thing I will say about this app is that if you are not at least somewhat familiar with photo editing you may want to read a little bit about what terms such as “Histogram,” “Saturation and Sepia,” and “Gamma” mean. You will still be able to edit photos without this knowledge, but the true power of this app is harnessed when you understand some photography basics!

The bar at the bottom contains some basic editing tools and filters. Touching the little scissors icon will allow you to crop the image. Touching the button just to the right of that will bring up several buttons that can be used for rotating your image and/or resizing it. Just to the right of these buttons you’ll find an “Undo” and “Redo” button. I was fairly impressed with how well these buttons worked, there was very little delay and they didn’t seem to cause any memory leak problems either.

In the lower right corner of the screen is a button that looks like a piece of paper with writing on it. Touching it will allow you to save your picture, open up a new one, or view a list of textures that you can apply to your current photo. There are kinds of neat effects here from a “Vintage Canvas” effect down to “Sandstone” and “Patchwork.”

The Fx button in the lower left corner of the screen has a variety of different effects that you can choose from for your photo. There are some basic ones like “Polarizer,” “Vintage,” and “Vignette,” as well as some more unusual ones under the “Misc Fx” button. Here you’ll find filters such as “Crayons,” “Comic Scene,” “Blueprint,” and “Sketch.”

In summary, while this app has a bit of a learning curve, if you take the time to figure out how it works it is much more powerful than most of the “free” photo utilities around. If you’re a photo junkie, and you’re constantly snapping shots on your iPhone then you should grab this app up for $0.99 today. It’s a purchase that you won’t regret!

iFindz is a new browser for the iPad, that is loaded with features. It helps you with work, school, and play, while keeping everything private.

It’s main feature, to me, is the ability to create user accounts. This protects your browsing privacy, as all your history, bookmarks, tabs, and notes, are all kept only on your profile. If your family is like mine, everyone wants to use the iPad to browse the web, and our 6 year old probably shouldn’t have full access to the internet. This way, we can log her in and she can just hit the tabs of the sites she’s allowed to visit. Each account is protected by a profile name and password.

A unique feature of iFindz, is the ability to send a message, or a “request”, to web content creators, without having to search for a contact page or an email. With a tap of a button, on any webpage,  you can send a request to the creator of that page. All requests are sent anonymously, and any replies will be sent to you, by iFindz. This is great for letting web developers know there may be errors on there site, requesting info on a product you might want to buy, or to submit content to someone’s blog.

iFindz makes looking back at your history, bookmarks, notes, requests, and responses, more engaging. iFindz adds images for everything you save. As long as you recognize the web pages you have visited, you can easily browse through your lists, and find what you’re looking for. A nice feature, especially for the kids who are still learning to read.

With the ability to add notes to any web page, iFindz becomes a great research tool. Either for school or for work, iFindz can be your essential tool for finding and saving important info for your next essay at school, or your next presentation at work. Notes can also be used to remind you why you were visiting a certain page.

I found iFindz for the iPad a great alternative to Mobile Safari, although not a replacement. There are many features in iFindz that I found useful. There are many other features not mentioned here, so you have to try this for yourself. It is a free app, so why not give it a try? You may use this in conjunction with Safari, to accomplish what you need to do. The big difference for me, was the ability to have user accounts to keep your browsing private.

Review – “Let My Face help you see your contacts!”

Cell phones have come a long way since their original introduction into the marketplace. We’ve gone from simple monochrome displays to high resolution smart phones with all kinds of free games and utilities! One thing that has stayed to same for quite a while is that it is a pain to try and add pictures to all of your contacts. Paragon Services is looking to change all of that with their new free “My Face” utility!

While there have been other apps that have offered ways to get photos for your contact list, for the most part they are all tied to a particular social interface. My Face instead uses only your phone number and name to deliver photos to you and your friends!

When you open up the app the first thing you’ll want to do is fill in the information on the “Settings” screen. You’ll need to enter some basic information that includes your phone number and initials. Once you’ve got that you can select a photo by touching the “Choose My Picture” button and getting a photo either from your iPhone’s camera or from your photo album.

Once you’re ready to upload your photo just touch the “Upload My Picture” button from the main menu. The first time you do this you’ll see a prompt telling you that you’re going to receive a text message with a link in it. All you have to do is click on the link in the text message that you receive and your photo will be uploaded and linked to your phone number! While this may seem a little annoying, it is for security reasons and it only has to be done the first time you upload a photo.

Well now that you’ve got your photo into the system it’s time to download all your friends photos! All you have to do is touch the “Get Contact Pictures” and it will check for and download all of them that are available. A prompt will come up below the first picture downloaded that that asks if you want to Ignore or Accept it. You can also choose to just “Accept All Contact Pictures” if you don’t want to go through all of them one at a time.

The final link from the main menu is a “Tell My Friends” button. If an app like this is really going to be useful your friends are going to have to upload their pictures to it as well, and this link offers a quick and easy way to send an email to your friends asking them to download this app and upload their photos!

My initial impressions of this app are that it does what it sets out to do quickly and easily. A huge plus is that not only is the app free but there is a version of it coming to the Android OS very soon. With it being cross platform and free there is a real chance that the app could become popular enough to be useful if word continues to go around! So what are you waiting for? Be an early adopter and upload your picture to My Face today!

There are a lot of voice/text plans for your iPhone out there, depending on your provider. Some companies will offer a plan that allows you to call other people on the same network, for free. This is a great feature, but how can you tell for sure that the people in your contacts list are on the same network as you, to take advantage of this service?

DoubleCheck from Double IP S.A. looks to solve this problem. With a simple interface, you can type in any mobile number and find out what carrier that number is assigned to. Works with all carriers in over 200 countries. It identifies the mobile carrier, and marks it in your address book, so you can easily tell if you’re making a free call, or using your plan’s minutes.

When you open the app, you are brought to the “Checks” tab. This is where all the numbers you have checked will show up. The app comes with 10 free checks. After that you can add more, via in-app purchasing, in the “Store” tab.

The “Share” tab allows you to tell everyone about this great service. There is a pre-composed message, or you can edit it and add your own. It can be sent via email of SMS. Just select your method of choice and hit the Share button, and the message will open up in a new email or SMS message, right within the app.

The “About” tab gives you quick access to DoubleIP’s website, for more information on DoubleChecker, and other apps they may have available.

To check a new number, simply tap the “New” button in the upper right of the Checks screen. Tap the entry field and type in the number, using the dialer keyboard. Then tap “Check”. The process is pretty quick, and pretty accurate. The new number shows up on your “Checks” list right away, and once DoubleChecker discovers the carrier, it is automatically added. You can then tap the contact, and assign the carrier to the contact in your address book. This way, when you go to call some one, you know right away, whether they are on the same carrier as you, or not.

Over all, this is a great utility to help save you money on your monthly cell phone bill. It is available in the App Store now, for $.99.

Trisect Development has created a simple but handy calculator that incorporates the ability to build and solve functions, which is quite easy to use.

To start with this is a pretty easy to use Scientific Calculator combining all the regular abilities you would consider from one. The top portion of the App is pretty self explanatory and useful even of itself. If you’re looking for a decent calculator App that is going to give you these built-in functions that this App is definitely one you should consider. There are other iPad Calculator Apps that only have these options, and are selling for more.

Secondly, which is the bottom of the App, you have the formula builder. A little bit more complicated than the calculator alone, this is where you can build and solve your formulas. A great feature in addition to the regular formula input is the ablity to insert your variables too – which makes this a fantastic formula solver too.To input your variables you simply enter in the values under the letter for which they are represented (a – f, x, y & z).

You can either input them using the keypad on the iPad or enter in the formula details from the preset values on the App.

The only drawback I found is that when in Landscape Mode, and editing with the iPad keyboard, it covers the bottom half of the App and you can therefore not see what it is you are typing into the Formula field – however this is not a problem in Portrait mode, which is what I figure most people will be using it in anyways.
