Review – “Check your priorities with a simple app!”

One thing that pretty much everyone struggles with at one time or another is setting priorities! How do we fit everything into our schedules and still manage to put enough emphasis on the things that are important? Well while an app in itself is not going to make you change your priorities, the Balance Your Life App is designed to help you assess them!

The interface is pretty simple. When you open up the app you’re taken to the main list. To add items to your priority list all you have to do is touch the “+” button in the upper right corner of the screen. You’ll be taken to a form that will allow you to add an item from a template, or to add a custom item if you want to.

Some of the template’s that you’ll see are for things like education, family, friends and Job. One thing I did find a bit odd is that there were no categories built-in for religion/God. With that said, I did find that most of the categories that I needed were there, you just won’t find a lot of extremely specific category’s.

In addition to setting your list of priorities you also need to set a certain “point” value to each item. This will help you figure out which things you are spending the most time doing. Not only will you see how many points each item has, but you’ll also see the percentages of how much of your time as a whole they are taking up!

To edit your list of categories just touch the button in the upper right corner labeled “Edit.” You can then delete any item by touching the little “-” button to the left and touching the “Delete” button.

If priorities are something you struggle with, then you know that they can be a big deal! In a matter of good timing, I never ended up needing any sort of scheduler or day planner until I first got my 1st generation iPod Touch. I had just gotten a new job that involved traveling around to a different location each day, doing different things at each place. Keeping track of that was nightmarish, and then I noticed my iPod Touch’s calendar features allowed me to track where I was supposed to be and what I was supposed to do there, all in my pocket.  Great!

As such, when I upgraded to an iPhone it became something I used almost as much as the music features. Once I got my iPad, I loved the calendar upgrades even more, though I have been disappointed by a few of its limitations. For example, I’d love to be able to color coordinate events or locations, and I can’t. I’d also love to be able to sync my iPhone and iPad calendars, and I can’t do that either. At least, not without paying $100 a year for MobileMe, and that isn’t going to happen.

So when I got a chance to look at DejaOffice 2010, I was pretty excited. Being a universal app, I can use it on both my iPhone and iPad. This should mean I can sync between them, right? Wrong. If I were to pay between $70 and $130, it WOULD sync with Outlook, Lotus, and a large number of other business and productivity programs, but it won’t sync my iPhone and my iPad. So that’s a major disappointment.

But it’s also pretty much the only disappointment. That’s because it does so much personal management stuff that it makes it an ideal day-planner. It has a calendar, task list, day at a glance, expense tracking and notes, all with the ability to color code all in different categories so you can know at a glance.  All use the standard iOS style menu screens, which means a very small learning curve to using this to it’s fullest.

It also has access to your onboard contact list, though, since Apple doesn’t seem to allow access to the calendar that is unavailable, you’ll have to put in everything by hand (or pay the money for the syncing if your scheduling is on your computer). Again. But that’s out of their hands, so let’s be fair about it.

So, all of this functionality AND it’s free? Sounds win-win to me. Well, it would if I needed any of it.  Personally, I only need the calendar, and since it doesn’t give me syncing, I have no reason to change. But if you need that functionality (and you don’t mind paying for syncing if you need it), then you can’t miss.

Mortgage Calculator – The Amortizer ($0.99)

Review – “A great app for homebuyers and homeowners looking to refinance!”

Whether you’re looking to buy a new house, or you’re looking at refinancing a property, wouldn’t it be great to be able to figure out what a loan would look like anywhere on your phone? Well now you can with a $0.99 app called “Mortgage Calculator – The Amortizer” for the iOS!

The app itself is pretty simple. To calculate the costs of a loan just touch the “+” button in the upper right corner of the screen and fill out the information that you see on the screen.  You’ll need to enter the purchase amount, down payment, interest rate, loan term, etc., and then touch the “Calculate” button in the upper right corner of the screen to figure out the costs associated with the proposed loan.

In addition to calculating the actual mortgage cost, you can also add in your escrow as well to get a more accurate number. To do that just touch the “Add Escrow Cost” button at the bottom of the loan information screen. You can then enter in each cost that is a part of your escrow individually, or you can add the total amount of your current escrow if you choose.

The loan breakdown that you get once you’ve calculated it offers a variety of interesting information. It calculates the total interest that you’ll pay on the loan, the total amount that you will pay on the loan if it goes as scheduled, and a breakdown of how much you will pay each month towards the interest and principal of the loan!

Another great feature of the app is the ability to generate PDF’s of the loan information and email them to anyone! To do this just touch the “Email PDF” button in the upper right corner of the screen. You’ll get the choice of whether or not to include the amortization schedule or not, and then you’ll be taken directly to a form email with the PDF attached to it.

My personal experience with this app is that it made it very easy to get quick figures on what a loan will cost you. Unfortunately what it does not have is a way to calculate what it will cost you to refinance a loan. With that said, the app is only $0.99, and the PDF email feature is a great way to share loan figures with people while on the go. I’d encourage you to head to app store and check it out for yourself today!

Audio Class Notes Free

Review – “Take notes the easy way for free!”

I found that one of the most irritating things in college was trying to keep up with some of my professors taking notes. There’s just so much information in some classes that sometimes it’s hard to decide what you need to write down. If you have one of those classes you may want to check out Audio Class Notes Free on your iPhone or iPod Touch!

When you open up the app the first thing you’ll see is a menu with three options. You can “Record a new file,” “Play A Recorded File,” or view and edit preferences in the “Options” menu. Inside the options menu you’ll see buttons to select the recording quality, remove all data from the app, and to add/remove “Classes” which is how all of your recordings are organized!

Once you’re ready to start recording you’ll need to make sure you’ve set up the class that you’re recording notes for, and then touch the “Record a new file” button. To start recording just touch the “Record” button in the upper left corner. At any time you can pause recording, or when you’re finished just touch the stop button stop and save it. You’ll be asked for a name for the recording, and if you don’t give it one then it will be named “Recording #?”.

Once you’ve recorded your class notes to review them later just touch the “Play A Recorded File” button. You’ll be given a list of all the files that you currently have. You can remove items from the list by swiping and touching the “Delete” button that comes up, or by touching the “Delete Mode” button in the lower right corner and using the “-” buttons to the left of the recordings.

To play a recording just touch it and you’ll open the the playback screen. From here you can not only listen to your recordings, but you can also tag certain parts so that you can quickly find them later. This is extremely easy to do, my only comment would be that there really needs to be a way to delete “tags” just in case you add one in a place where you didn’t want it, or you named it wrong.

All things aside this is a very useful app, and I was very impressed with how well this app was able to pick up people’s voices, even at a distance. Best of all though it’s totally free! The only thing you’ll have to deal with are the ads that you see at the top of the screen. They are not obtrusive though, and if you choose to view them they are Apple’s new “iAds” so you don’t have to leave the app to check them out!

If you’ve been looking for a voice recording app similar to this one, there is no reason that you shouldn’t at least give this a try. While there may be apps out there with a few extra “bells and whistles,” it is very doubtful that you’ll be able to find a better, easier to use app than this one for free. Are you in school studying for your MBA and still searching for that perfect study aid to help you with completely your degree? If that fits your description then you may find Pocket MBA Full Course (Part 1) an app would reading about.

This app is developed by Intersog and is similar to taking a course at your own pace. It is really nice, clean, in depth, and does a great job of offering something for different learning styles.

First of all you’ll notice when you launch the app that it has a great interface to it. It defaults to the main menu, which lists out the different courses that you can choose from, with a brief summary of each one. From here you will pick the subject you are interested in studying and proceed to Launch that course.

Once you choose and go into a course you’ll see it’s even broken down into chapters. After that it goes into pre-course expectations, which I think is great, so you will know what to expect to learn from each chapter. In addition, if you look along the bottom you’ll see that they offer the chapter in modes to read the text, study through flash cards, and even to take an exam.

A few things worth noting about this app ..

1. You can bookmark your progress or just any sections you would like to refer back to.

2. You can search for topics throughout the app through a handy search button.

3. There’s a handy glossary (specific to the application) so you can look up new words quickly and easily as you encounter them).

4. The app is quick, smooth, really clean, and just overall very nicely laid out. You can tell the developer put a lot of time into fine tuning this application.

My thoughts? If you’re studying for your MBA and need a great tool to give you that motivation and push to do well then this app is definitely worth looking at. Yes, it’s pricey but so is your education, right? Those Master’s classes aren’t cheap, trust me I know!

If doing well and not repeating courses is important to you then this app may be worth the investment. It’s very nice, seems very in depth, and may be what you need to give your education that extra boost, so check it out in the App Store today!

If you use your iPhone to take and manipulate photos then you may be interested in what CineCrop has to offer. This app is developed by Kert Gartner and the concept behind it is simple.. take your photos and apply different cinematic aspect ratios to them to give them that cinema appearance. Let’s take a look..

When you first open the app it defaults to your photo library so that you can choose a photo that you are interested in adding a cinema effect to. After you choose your photo it goes to the main window where you can pick your crop ratio, apply the crop, go into settings, and find out application information.

You can choose your crop and then hit Apply to crop the image (which creates a new image and does not overwrite the original). You can also hit the long button on the bottom left in order to change the ratio where some of your options are High Definition TV, iPhone Full Screen, etc. You can hit the wrench and go into the Settings where you can rotate the image and even flip flop the image. By hitting the ‘i’ button you can find out more information about the Aspect Ratio or even check out the CineCrop Manual.

Once you hit Crop the next screen gives you the option to either Save or Undo. Saving the image actually gives you two options .. which is to save in to your library or to send it out in an email.

Simple enough? While this app is very simple and easy to use it can also come in handy if you are interested in a way to quickly and easily apply these types of crops to your images. If you are interested in checking this app out, head on over to the App Store today.

Group Call & Text by Callvine (Free)

Review – “Keeping in contact with groups of people the easy way!”

Do you regularly send text messages to the same groups of people? How would you like to be able to start up a group call without adding callers one at a time? Well wish no longer because now you can do that and more with Group Call & Text by Callvine!

The app itself is very straightforward. There is a menu bar along the bottom with 5 buttons. There is a button for calling and one for testing. There is also a “Groups” button that allows to divide your contacts yourself, a “Recents” button that shows all of your recent group calls and a “More” button that contains some basic setup options.

To set up a group text just touch the “Text Now” button at the bottom of the screen. At the top of the screen is a search bar. You can either type the name of the contact you want to add or just touch the little blue bookmark symbol on the right side of the search bar. Editing your list of contacts is simple as well. Just touch the “+” button in the upper right corner of the screen to add things and “swipe” to delete just like you would on the iPhone’s mail app!

One of the things that I really noticed with this app is just how well it is designed to work with the iOS 4. Once you get ready to send a text message you are taken straight to the “Messages” app without leaving the Group Call & Text completely. Once you are finished with your message you will go straight back to the Group Call & Text main screen!

The group call feature is set up the exact same as the texting app. Once you get all of the people that you want to group call just touch the “place call” button and it will connect to all your friends. This section of the app offers the same “swipe” to delete method of the texting app.

While there are a lot of cool features in this app, the one that truly won me over is the “Groups” feature. Touching the “Groups” button in the lower left corner of the screen will take you to a screen where you can access, create and edit various lists of people that you call and/or text regularly!

Once you’ve created a group, touching it will bring up a menu with three options: Place Group Call, Send Group Text and Edit this Group. This is something that is sadly missing from the built in messages app on the iPhone. You can text people in a group, but there is really not a good way to keep several groups of people to send texts to regularly.

To make group calls with this app you will need to sign up for an account through CallVine. The group calling features are free for an introductory period that ends on Sept 7th, and texting is always free! Whether you find yourself regularly arranging group calls, or you just text to groups of people a lot this app is available for free. So don’t wait another minute, head to the App Store and download it for yourself today!

iFindz is a new browser for the iPad, that is loaded with features. It helps you with work, school, and play, while keeping everything private.

It’s main feature, to me, is the ability to create user accounts. This protects your browsing privacy, as all your history, bookmarks, tabs, and notes, are all kept only on your profile. If your family is like mine, everyone wants to use the iPad to browse the web, and our 6 year old probably shouldn’t have full access to the internet. This way, we can log her in and she can just hit the tabs of the sites she’s allowed to visit. Each account is protected by a profile name and password.

A unique feature of iFindz, is the ability to send a message, or a “request”, to web content creators, without having to search for a contact page or an email. With a tap of a button, on any webpage,  you can send a request to the creator of that page. All requests are sent anonymously, and any replies will be sent to you, by iFindz. This is great for letting web developers know there may be errors on there site, requesting info on a product you might want to buy, or to submit content to someone’s blog.

iFindz makes looking back at your history, bookmarks, notes, requests, and responses, more engaging. iFindz adds images for everything you save. As long as you recognize the web pages you have visited, you can easily browse through your lists, and find what you’re looking for. A nice feature, especially for the kids who are still learning to read.

With the ability to add notes to any web page, iFindz becomes a great research tool. Either for school or for work, iFindz can be your essential tool for finding and saving important info for your next essay at school, or your next presentation at work. Notes can also be used to remind you why you were visiting a certain page.

I found iFindz for the iPad a great alternative to Mobile Safari, although not a replacement. There are many features in iFindz that I found useful. There are many other features not mentioned here, so you have to try this for yourself. It is a free app, so why not give it a try? You may use this in conjunction with Safari, to accomplish what you need to do. The big difference for me, was the ability to have user accounts to keep your browsing private.

My Face (Free)

Review – “Let My Face help you see your contacts!”

Cell phones have come a long way since their original introduction into the marketplace. We’ve gone from simple monochrome displays to high resolution smart phones with all kinds of free games and utilities! One thing that has stayed to same for quite a while is that it is a pain to try and add pictures to all of your contacts. Paragon Services is looking to change all of that with their new free “My Face” utility!

While there have been other apps that have offered ways to get photos for your contact list, for the most part they are all tied to a particular social interface. My Face instead uses only your phone number and name to deliver photos to you and your friends!

When you open up the app the first thing you’ll want to do is fill in the information on the “Settings” screen. You’ll need to enter some basic information that includes your phone number and initials. Once you’ve got that you can select a photo by touching the “Choose My Picture” button and getting a photo either from your iPhone’s camera or from your photo album.

Once you’re ready to upload your photo just touch the “Upload My Picture” button from the main menu. The first time you do this you’ll see a prompt telling you that you’re going to receive a text message with a link in it. All you have to do is click on the link in the text message that you receive and your photo will be uploaded and linked to your phone number! While this may seem a little annoying, it is for security reasons and it only has to be done the first time you upload a photo.

Well now that you’ve got your photo into the system it’s time to download all your friends photos! All you have to do is touch the “Get Contact Pictures” and it will check for and download all of them that are available. A prompt will come up below the first picture downloaded that that asks if you want to Ignore or Accept it. You can also choose to just “Accept All Contact Pictures” if you don’t want to go through all of them one at a time.

The final link from the main menu is a “Tell My Friends” button. If an app like this is really going to be useful your friends are going to have to upload their pictures to it as well, and this link offers a quick and easy way to send an email to your friends asking them to download this app and upload their photos!

My initial impressions of this app are that it does what it sets out to do quickly and easily. A huge plus is that not only is the app free but there is a version of it coming to the Android OS very soon. With it being cross platform and free there is a real chance that the app could become popular enough to be useful if word continues to go around! So what are you waiting for? Be an early adopter and upload your picture to My Face today!

There are a lot of voice/text plans for your iPhone out there, depending on your provider. Some companies will offer a plan that allows you to call other people on the same network, for free. This is a great feature, but how can you tell for sure that the people in your contacts list are on the same network as you, to take advantage of this service?

DoubleCheck from Double IP S.A. looks to solve this problem. With a simple interface, you can type in any mobile number and find out what carrier that number is assigned to. Works with all carriers in over 200 countries. It identifies the mobile carrier, and marks it in your address book, so you can easily tell if you’re making a free call, or using your plan’s minutes.

* Identify invalid numbers in your address book
* Mark the retrieved information in your address book with just a touch
* Retrieved information is always available when you make a call or text your contacts

When you open the app, you are brought to the “Checks” tab. This is where all the numbers you have checked will show up. The app comes with 10 free checks. After that you can add more, via in-app purchasing, in the “Store” tab.

The “Share” tab allows you to tell everyone about this great service. There is a pre-composed message, or you can edit it and add your own. It can be sent via email of SMS. Just select your method of choice and hit the Share button, and the message will open up in a new email or SMS message, right within the app.

The “About” tab gives you quick access to DoubleIP’s website, for more information on DoubleChecker, and other apps they may have available.

To check a new number, simply tap the “New” button in the upper right of the Checks screen. Tap the entry field and type in the number, using the dialer keyboard. Then tap “Check”. The process is pretty quick, and pretty accurate. The new number shows up on your “Checks” list right away, and once DoubleChecker discovers the carrier, it is automatically added. You can then tap the contact, and assign the carrier to the contact in your address book. This way, when you go to call some one, you know right away, whether they are on the same carrier as you, or not.

Over all, this is a great utility to help save you money on your monthly cell phone bill. It is available in the App Store now, for $.99.

Trisect Development has created a simple but handy calculator that incorporates the ability to build and solve functions, which is quite easy to use.

To start with this is a pretty easy to use Scientific Calculator combining all the regular abilities you would consider from one. The top portion of the App is pretty self explanatory and useful even of itself. If you’re looking for a decent calculator App that is going to give you these built-in functions that this App is definitely one you should consider. There are other iPad Calculator Apps that only have these options, and are selling for more.

Secondly, which is the bottom of the App, you have the formula builder. A little bit more complicated than the calculator alone, this is where you can build and solve your formulas. A great feature in addition to the regular formula input is the ablity to insert your variables too – which makes this a fantastic formula solver too.To input your variables you simply enter in the values under the letter for which they are represented (a – f, x, y & z).

You can either input them using the keypad on the iPad or enter in the formula details from the preset values on the App.

The only drawback I found is that when in Landscape Mode, and editing with the iPad keyboard, it covers the bottom half of the App and you can therefore not see what it is you are typing into the Formula field – however this is not a problem in Portrait mode, which is what I figure most people will be using it in anyways.

Review – “Use your iDevice as a full-featured alarm clock!”

Most people are fully aware that their iDevice offers the ability to set alarms from within the built in “Clock” app. If you use your iPhone, iPad or even iPod Touch regularly for this feature then you may want to check out Touch LCD.

Touch LCD is an app that offers a clock display with all kinds of information and extra features. It also has a large display for the time in the center of the screen, and several small displays forthings such as the time in another time zone, the day of the week, and lots more!

The thing that I enjoyed the most about this app is just how simple the interface really is. Everything is literally right at your fingertips with a single touch! The screen is divided into three sections, and there are several different options for what can be viewed in those three sections. To switch between these options all you have to do is swipe that area of the screen side to side.

In the lower right corner of the center area is a little settings button. Touching the settings button will bring up a long list of all the options that are available in this app. One of the first things I did when I opened up this screen is to go to the “Notifications” screen and turn off the “Touch Tones.” This is a feature that is enabled by default that makes a beeping noise every time you touch a button. The beeping noise, while not extremely loud, is very annoying.

Another cool feature of this app is night mode. If you do decide to use this app as a clock at night you can tone down the screen brightness by either touching the little moon-shaped icon in the lower right corner of the main center area, or by opening the settings menu and touching “Night Mode” button.

While there are a lot of positives about this app I did want to note a few issues that I would like to see the developers address. One of them is the sounds that are available to use as the tone for your alarms. First of all, the built-in beeps are just down-right irritating, and as such are all but unusable. The second thing is that the developer needs to add the ability to select individual tracks, or possibly to create your own lists from within the app.

With all of the other features such as the built-in timers and stopwatch, the feature that set this app apart for me was the “wake-up test”. I can’t even count how many times I’ve turned my alarm off without ever fully waking up and been late for something. The wake-up test requires you to touch the 4 corners of the screen in the order that they are lit up before it will turn off the alarm. The order that they are selected in is random and so you really can’t do it just by accident!

While the display of the iPhone makes this clock probably a little small for an alarm clock, this is a very useful app and it looks even better on the iPad! If you’re still reading this I’d encourage you to check it out in the App Store today. It’s only $1.99, so what are you waiting for?

Well if that sounds tempting you may want to Prank Calls – Pallaudio. The concept behind this is simple .. while talking on the phone you can invoke one of many options so you create the perfect excuse.

Review – “A great guide for nurses that is truly pocket sized!”

There are good things and bad things about electronic references. The good thing about them is the fact that you can have a virtually limitless amount of information packed into a very small device. The problem with them tends to be that the more information you pack in, the more difficult they become to navigate. Informed Publishing has addressed this by integrating great information with a simple interactive interface!

When you open up the RN Pocket Guide you’ll see a small menu bar at the bottom of the screen with four buttons. The button on the left of this menu will bring up a list of all the topics that are covered within this app. There are all kinds of topics covered from Cardiac and Respiratory down to Mental Health and Gastrointestinal.

When you find the topic that you need information on, touching it will bring up a list of articles to read. What really makes this app great though is that the information itself is interactive. If the article you’re reading mentions a test that you might want to perform it will give you a link to that test within the app, or if it references a phone number it will give you a link to dial that phone number directly.

Besides the articles full of information, this app also offers a variety of different medical calculators. You can access the full list of them by touching the “Calculators” button at the bottom of the screen. Many of them are also available from within various information in the “Topics” section as well.

Another great feature of this app is the “Search/Bookmarks” feature. Anytime you find and are reading an article that you think you might need later, you can add a bookmark to it by touching the “+” button at the bottom of the screen. You can then access your list of bookmarks either from the main menu or by touching the bookmark button from within an article.

You can switch from bookmarks to the search feature by touching the icon in the upper right corner of the screen. As you type information into the search bar you’ll see live updates of information below. Touching any of the articles that pop up will take you straight to them. This makes it extremely easy to quickly find information on a particular topic. No hunting through topics and subtopics, just type one good key word and head there directly!

If you’re a nurse and you have or used to carry a pocket guide of some sort, this is an app that you should definitely check out. If you travel a lot by plane you know it can be confusing sometimes trying to keep track of when planes are arriving and departing sometimes. Flights get delayed all the time, and even if it’s only a few minutes that could make a huge difference to you! Whether you’re just curious, or you really need to know, World Flights for iPhone will allow you to find out the latest flight information from anywhere!

The first thing you see when you open up this app is a screen with a map. If you allow the app to use your current position it will find the closest airport to your current position. to view information about that airport just touch the little arrow button next to the airport’s name. You’ll be taken to a screen where you can choose to view both international and domestic flights and flight schedules.

At the bottom of the airport information screen you’ll see two buttons. On the left side is a button that will give you directions to that airport. This button will launch Google Maps, and using you current alocation, give you detailed directions to the airport you are viewing. The second button on the right will give you the current weather, as observed at the airport you are viewing.

When you go to check out the flight information from this menu it’s divided into departures and arrivals. On the overview screen you’ll see everything from whether the flight is on schedule to it’s flight number and estimated time of arrival/departure. Touching any flight while you are viewing a list of them will take you to a detailed page of information on the specific flight.

So what if you’re not interested in flights from/to your local airport? All you have to do is go back to the main menu and touch the “Airport Search” button below the map on the left. This will allow you to look up any airport by country/state/city or by it’s unique airport code. If you go through a lot of the same airports regularly, you can also add them to your favorites list by touching the button in the upper right corner of the screen from the airport’s main menu!

While there are not a lot of “frills” in this app, I was very impressed with how easy it was to navigate. I did notice a few small bugs that the developers need to sharpen up. For example, there seems to be some small “caching” problems when you go back to view a flight schedule that you have opened up recently. However, the few times this did happen, restarting the app seemed to fix it immediately. I also noticed that not every airport has weather information available. With that said, I don’t think a lot of people are going to be using an app like this to check the weather so this will definitely not be a deal-breaker for most people.

Besides these relatively minor problems, this app can be extremely useful. It is a whole lot quicker to pull out your iPhone and use this app than it is to find similar information on the airline websites, and for business travelers this app will be well worth the money! Review – “Navigate your music library with ease!”

While Apple has added a considerable amount of search functionality to the iPhone through OS updates, it could definitely be better when it comes to the iPod app. If you’ve got a particularly large music library you’ve probably wished for a way to find songs using multiple filters (author, title, genre, etc.). Well wish no more, because SmartPlaylist does just that and more!

The best thing about this app is that it offers lots of flexibility without being confusing. When you open up SmartPlaylist all you have to do to create a new playlist is enter some information into the filters and touch the generate list button in the lower right corner of the screen. It will take a few seconds for the app to generate a list of songs and then you’ll be taken directly into the newly generated playlist. It’s that simple!

You can also set up multiple playlist filters in this app as well. At the top of the screen are 6 letters. Each one represents a totally separate set of playlist filters. Touching any of them will take you to that particularly set of playlist settings.

Not only can you create 6 different playlist filters but you can save any group of settings to load at a later time by touching the button in the lower left corner of the screen and selecting “Save current rules.” I found that both the load rules and save rules commands work very quickly and do exactly as you would expect.

There are a few other settings that you can set up from the settings menu in the lower left corner of the screen. If you touch the “Settings” button you’ll be given the option to set the color scheme, decide whether your playlists should repeat when they are finished, and even show a badge number on the app that represents how many songs there are in your current playlist.

The search engine in this app is very powerful. One feature that is extremely nice in this app is that you have the ability to use operators, such as AND, OR and NOT. This allows you to be very precise in your searches by including and excluding various search terms. You can also enter in just part of a word and it will search for all related words that have that section of text in their words (ex. “alter” search term will return all “alternative” songs).

If you have a pretty large music library this is one app that you really don’t want to miss, especially since it’s only $1.99. It makes creating a playlist so simple you’ll wonder how you ever found the right music before SmartPlaylist. So what are you waiting for? Check it out in the App Store today!

Share Board is a iOS Universal whiteboard sharing App, meaning it’ll work full-size on either the iPad or iPhone (or iPod Touches, obviously), a new and welcome introduction to the App Store, and one feature I think is worth more than the value of the App itself. Universal Apps need only be downloaded once and work perfectly on both platforms – unlike some iPad-Only versions of iPhone Apps, or worse, iPhone Apps that ‘work on’ iPad, but require the 2x Button to be any larger.

So what exactly is a Whiteboard Sharing App anyways? Well, the concept and execution are fairly simple – but very effective. You have a white space, and you fill it with notes, drawings, pictures, whatever you please. I’ll first go over the creating portion, then cover the sharing part.

To start a new White Board, what you’re actually doing is creating a server, or hosted board. Like a Chat Room, if you will. The tools you can use to ‘write on’ your whiteboard are Pen, Marker and Highlighter (or Eraser), you have four colors to choose from for each the marker or pen. You can also import photographs from your photo library. You can also add text (however, it always creates a border with drop-shadow making a whole box, which I found a little annoying – if there’s a setting to turn this bordering off, I couldn’t find it) anywhere on the whiteboard.

As fantastic as a whiteboard App itself on it’s own is (and this one is still pretty great), this one is extra awesome because of the sharable feature. Like I said earlier, when you first create a whiteboard, what you’re creating is the hosting page or server for other users to connect. Once you’re connected you can both edit and see the others edits in real-time, as they draw them. I easily set up a communal whiteboard between my iPhone and iPad and had a bit of fun with it. I bet this would be super-fun in a room with several iPad users.

Sharing and Saving are super-easy. You would not believe the number of Apps out there that don’t let you save your progress on something like this, or more likely, you can save but not continue the same session later. Luckily Share Board lets you do both. From within the board itself you can share by saving to your Photo Library, posting to Facebook or my Email. From within your ‘Saved’ Boards you can also export your whiteboard to your saved photos and from there you can do with it whatever you can manage to do with all photos, email, tweet, Facebook – however these options are not built in in the Saved Section. However, if you open your Saves and ‘Continue’ Work on them you can once again (from within the editor) share via all of the methods mentioned above.

Other than that one quibble, this is a great App – if you need a platform to share ideas and whiteboard-like notes, I highly recommend it!

I have looked through many (many!) to do lists on the App Store, trying to find a one size fits all app for what I need. I don’t have a problem making my todo list .. I have a problem remembering to pull my list up when I’m near my errands!

Guess what .. there’s now an app for that! Enters Toogo. ..

Developed by Benjamin Nelson, this app is simple and straightforward, but super handy when it comes to reminding you of your daily errands. In a nutshell this app gives you the ability to create location – based to dos .. and then reminds you of your errands when you are near them. Sounds great, doesn’t it?

When you first open the application it defaults to the map screen, which looks similar to an application like Google Maps.

At the top you’ll see Settings, where you can change the map view and even enable the multi-tasking option for the application (when applicable on your device). At the bottom left you’ll see an icon that you will press to find your location (again on applicable devices). In the middle you can toggle between a Map View of your to dos, or a List View. At the bottom right hand side you’ll see the ‘+’ button, which is how you add a new location.

By default your map is empty aside from your current location marking. Pressing the ‘+’ button will take you to the screen where you can add new to do. It asks you for a Name (which will show up on either the list or the map), Location, and a location radius to which you should be notified (either 1/2, 1, 2, 5, or 10 miles).

By clicking the Location button it will default to your current location (if known), however you can either type in an address at the top or you can simply drag the little pin to the location you want it to be at.

(***NOTE .. this part appears to only work when multi-tasking is ENABLED on an iPhone that supports it***)  Now comes the fun part. After giving your to do a name, location, and notification radius it is added to your list. When you are driving along and move within your specified radius a popup will appear and remind you of your errand. How handy is that?!?!

My only concern with this app is that it may be battery draining, since it appears to leave the GPS option on your phone active the entire time, through multi-tasking. However I have not used it long enough to confirm or deny this… but I can note a swifter decrease in battery usage and my phone, when not is use, feels warmer than it did before using this app.

If you have a device that can fully support the ability of this app I’d suggest heading over to the App Store now and grabbing your copy at the bargain price of $0.99. While I am thinking it may use a little more battery than your phone sitting idle it may be a minimal tradeoff to how handy this app can be for your every day errands.

BudgetCare is a utilities App for the iPhone that is really super easy to use and tracks your daily spending to help you budget and organize your finances. It’s s simple-to use and very strait forward tracking App, and very versatile and useful.

You start by entering your monthly budget – on this section you have the option to repeat for each month, or set manually for each month (for those months when you have a little less, or a little more cash). Then, you track your daily purchases, bill payments and everything else withdrawn from this budget. It’s very easy to add an item, and they provide you with a comprehensive list of categories to choose from. Once you’ve entered in your data you can always see how you have been spending your money, in which categories and the budget remaining.

To view details on the month as a whole, how you spend your money, and on what in detailed form you visit the statistics section where you can view by list – which shows the category and the item totals, or you can view in a pie chart to see where most of your money is going. Other features within the settings include setting which currency symbol to show (it offers $, €, £, ¥ & p.), you can also manage your categories and sub-categories and add your own for your specific and unique spending habits.

The interface is very iOS iPhone Standard and looks very much like a built-in App. You can also export your info via email in CSV file (for Excel) so that review and save the information that you’ve collected on your home computer.

Quite a few customers have commented that they’d really like to see repeating events for payments out each month which are the same. I can see why, if you use this App for all of your transaction tracking, it would be frustrating to enter in the same rent/cable/car or other bill that repeats. Especially when it is very likley that you have several monthly repeating events. Although this App hasn’t been updated since last year, the description in the App Store does state that this is a feature they are working on and I highly suspect that they know that it’s something that everyone would love to see as a part of this App.

If you’re looking for some simple, easy to use, software to keep track of your budget, you’re going to do well if you download BudgetCare – I’ve seen other records management/finance management Apps that are entirely way more complicated than they need to be, luckily this isn’t one, so try it out!

Shoebox Apps has put together a simple and useful little tool to schedule, and organize all the conference calls you may need to make. I must-have for the person who’s constantly needing to schedule and remember daily, weekly or hourly conference calls. When you’re overwhelmed, or really like to stay organized, Join The Call helps.

Join The Call is a simple tool – while it seemingly only does one thing, schedules and maintains a record of upcoming and past Conference Calls, this is an incredibly useful tool for people who need it. It does it well, and without being complicated or difficult.

It’s designed to look like all other native Apps on the iPhone which makes it feel like a built-in feature of your phone. You start by creating a new event, either Scheduled (upcoming), Favorites or General. Go ahead and add all of the information you want, for Scheduled Title, Date, Time, Duration and Phone # are all required, but for Favorites and General Conference Calls you need only the Title and Phone number. There is of course, also a space to enter in the passcode for the call too.

One of the unique features of Join The Call is that when you are creating an event you have the option to add a screenshot (or, for that matter, any photo from your iPhone) to the event. While it won’t import the information you need automatically, this could be very helpful for when you are entering the details of an upcoming call, instead of having to writ it down or continue to go back to the email while creating the event, you can simply Load a screenshot and all the information is right there, whenever you bring up a field in the event. I do not think that this is something you’ll realize is so helpful until the first time you use it. I think the developers were very smart to include this option.

Once you have your event(s) loaded you can easily find them under “Scheduled” or “Favorites” from the main-page menu, or under “General” in the Setting section. Actually, the easiest and most efficient way is by going to the Search section of the main menu page, as all of your events are listed there, and are easily found if you want to search for the title with text. There is also a History Section from the main menu page in case you want to look up a past event to reschedule, quickly.

Sharing your scheduled events is super easy. Tap on your event and you are given several options, obviously the first one is to Call the Number (to be used obviously when you want to connect to your Conference Call), otherwise you have two options to share the info: Email, or Text Message (wherein the App copies all the details to your Clipboard and bring up your Contact list to select the recipient for a text – close enough to in-app texting, I suppose).

If there was one feature I’d hope for in future updates it would be an option to set an alarm to notify you (at the determined interval you request, 5min, 10min, what have you) of upcoming events, or the option to export your events to the Calendar App. However, for a simple App, it really does get the job done – and if you have several calls a week, you should definitely pick this up.
