I should start this by saying I am not a religious or spiritual person, myself, but I do respect the fact that a lot of people find value in that. This is a great app for monitoring the App Store. Something the is missing from the actual App Store. Being able to keep an eye on certain apps that you may find a little pricey, and know when there are going on sale, is a terrific feature, that will probably never be included by Apple. The “Changes and Updates at a glance” feature is great, if you’re interested in knowing what has recently been updated, or want to ignore updates and focus on new releases only. Seeing as this app is free, there is no reason we cannot recommend this app.

iStair ($0.99)

Review – “Count your steps as you work out!”

If you’ve got a regular workout routine and stairs are something that are included in it, you may want to check out iStair. iStair is an app that will count how many steps you’ve taken for you! How does it accomplish this you ask? Through the use of the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer!

When you open up this app you’re taken straight to the main screen. At the top you’ll see a large number that shows how many steps you’ve taken, and just below is a “Reset” button and a “i” button. To use the app you’re supposed to just hold it in your hand as you walk up the stairs. I was kind of expecting the app to ask me to just put it in my pocket, but holding it makes more sense if you really want an accurate count!

At any time you can restart your step count by touching the “Reset” button. Touching the “i” button will bring up a screen that describes how to properly use the app. There is also a “Sensitivity’ meter here as well. By default the meter is set in the middle and is set at the ideal sensitivity, based on an average person’s step.

There’s not really much else to this app, but it does what it’s designed to do well.  If you’re workout routine regularly includes steps (whether on a machine or on real steps) you may want to check out iStair.  This app can make keeping track of your workout as easy as holding your phone as you walk! Sound Sleep (Free)

Whether you are suffering with insomnia, or you just want the time you spend sleeping to be more effective you may want to check out Sound Sleep. The app uses sound effects that have a “subliminal” effect on your mind to help you sleep.

The app itself is pretty simple. When you open it up you’ll see a timer at the top of the screen. You can set the amount of time that the sounds will play by touching the “Set Time” button just below the timer. You can also set the volume of the “subliminal” sounds here as well.

You have the choice to listen to music of your own while you listen to the sleep sounds. To create a list of songs to play while you fall asleep all you have to do is touch the button in the upper right corner of the screen. You’ll be taken to a screen that will show your current list of songs to play.

To add songs to your playlist just touch the “+” button in the upper right corner of the screen. You’ll be able to search through all of your playlist and also scan through your songs by title, artist, etc.. Once you’ve added songs to your playlist you can remove them at any time by swiping the screen over the song you want to remove and touching the “Delete” button.

Throughout all of these screens you’ll see a bar at the bottom of the screen that contains a play/pause button, and both a forward and a back button. The music and sound effects will even keep playing if you exit the app as long as you have iOS 4 installed on your device!

In addition to everything else, there are actually 3 different “sound” settings for sleep sounds to choose from. You can access these different settings by touching the button in the lower left corner of the screen. There are two of them designed for sleep induction and one that is designed to help you fall asleep when you are wide awake.

All other things aside, apps that use “subliminal” sounds to help induce sleep, lose weight, etc. are going to have different results on different people. The app is very easy to use though and the ability to use your own music and keep it playing when you exit the app are nice touches. Emergency & Critical Care Pocket Guide ($9.99)

A lot of medical professionals carry pocket guides that contain various information that they might need in the field. For years Informed has been a large provider of these small pocket-sized guides, and now they are bringing these great resources directly to your mobile device!

Previously all of these medical resources were released in a simple PDF format much like a lot of digital book formats like you see today. While it was not a bad format, Informed is now releasing all of their apps in a way that allows you to interact with and search for the material that you’re looking for!

When you open up this app the first screen you’ll see is the Topics screen. This is a great way to quickly find information. Touching any available topic will bring up all of the related information. For example, touching the “Medical Emergencies” topic will bring up a list of items to choose from that include Abdominal pain, Abuse, Childbirth, Choking, and many more.

Once you find what you want and open up you’ll find that the information in this app is not just boring data, it is laid out with all kinds of caps, punctuation, bullets and even pictures in some cases. You’ll even find links to things within the app when applicable. For example, in some of the articles you’ll find links to the poison control center. Touching these links will place a phone call to their headquarters for you.

You’ll also find a variety of different calculators in this app. It includes everything from a simple conversion calculator that handles temperature, weight, volume and length, down to a variety of different Pediatric calculators. The interfaces for the calculator’s were very easy to understand and use, and they also work very quickly!

The third button in the menu at the bottom of the screen is the “Search/Bookmarks” button. Touching this brings up a list of all your current bookmarks to choose from. Touching any of them will take you directly to the page that you were on when you created them.

In the upper left corner of the “Search/Bookmarks” screen you’ll see a little magnifying glass. Touching this button will open up a search bar where you can search for anything. This is a great feature that will allow you to quickly find the exact information you are looking for. The searches work in real time as well so there is no waiting to load search results.

If you find yourself carrying a paper version of this or a similar emergency reference then you’ll definitely want to check out this app. If you’re just not that present that usually carries around a reference maybe this would be a good time to start! Informed RN Pocket Guide ($9.99)

There are good things and bad things about electronic references. The good thing about them is the fact that you can have a virtually limitless amount of information packed into a very small device. The problem with them tends to be that the more information you pack in, the more difficult they become to navigate. Informed Publishing has addressed this by integrating great information with a simple interactive interface!

When you open up the RN Pocket Guide you’ll see a small menu bar at the bottom of the screen with four buttons. The button on the left of this menu will bring up a list of all the topics that are covered within this app. There are all kinds of topics covered from Cardiac and Respiratory down to Mental Health and Gastrointestinal.

When you find the topic that you need information on, touching it will bring up a list of articles to read. What really makes this app great though is that the information itself is interactive. If the article you’re reading mentions a test that you might want to perform it will give you a link to that test within the app, or if it references a phone number it will give you a link to dial that phone number directly.

Besides the articles full of information, this app also offers a variety of different medical calculators. You can access the full list of them by touching the “Calculators” button at the bottom of the screen. Many of them are also available from within various information in the “Topics” section as well.

Another great feature of this app is the “Search/Bookmarks” feature. Anytime you find and are reading an article that you think you might need later, you can add a bookmark to it by touching the “+” button at the bottom of the screen. You can then access your list of bookmarks either from the main menu or by touching the bookmark button from within an article.

You can switch from bookmarks to the search feature by touching the icon in the upper right corner of the screen. As you type information into the search bar you’ll see live updates of information below. Touching any of the articles that pop up will take you straight to them. This makes it extremely easy to quickly find information on a particular topic. No hunting through topics and subtopics, just type one good key word and head there directly!

If you’re a nurse and you have or used to carry a pocket guide of some sort, this is an app that you should definitely check out. If you’re like me you’ve found that a lot of diet and exercise programs can be hard to keep track of. Counting calories is especially tedious because you have to figure out how many calories are in the food that you’re eating! Well thanks to FitClick, now it’s easier than ever to keep track of your diet and exercise programs with one simple iPhone app!

Before you can start using FitClick you’ll need to register for an account. This will allow you to access all your information and settings from any web browser, and also from within the FitClick iPhone app! Once you open an account you’ll need to enter in a workout plan to use and some basic information about yourself, such as your height and weight. After you get your information all entered in your workout routine and calorie intake will be set up for you.

Once everything is setup FitClick will automatically login and take you to your home screen when you open the app. As you go through the day you’ll want to enter in what you eat during the day into the “Diet Tracker”. There are five slots for you to enter in what you eat during the day: “Breakfast,” “Snack 1,” “Lunch,” “Snack 2,” and “Supper.”

To enter what you ate into one just touch the meal you want to enter in and select “add food.” You’ll see a search box. All you have to do is type the name of the foods that you eat, select the amount that you eat, and then touch the “Add +” button in the lower right corner of the screen. If at any time you want a quick overview of how many calories you’ve consumed/burned you’ll find your “Calorie Balance” at the main menu.

While the calorie counter of this app is very cool, my favorite thing about this app is the database of exercises that you can choose from. There are tons of different workout regimens that you can select from. You’ll also find a ton of information available about all different kinds of exercises.

If your workout routine has an exercise that you’re not familiar with all you have to do is touch it and then touch “View Exercise.” You’ll be taken to a screen that contains adetailed description of the exercise, as well as an embedded Youtube video that will show you how to perform it.

While there are tons of features in this app, it does seem to be missing one rather obvious one. There is no way in this app to change your workout plan. While this isn’t something that you will be doing on a regular basis, it would have still been nice to have been able to do it from within the app if you wanted to.

All nitpicking aside, this app is probably one of the most useful “health” apps that I’ve come across in the App Store. It doesn’t make anything over-complicated, but at the same time it still manages to be useful! It’s also reasonably priced at just $3.99 with no subscription fee of any kind. If you’ve been searching for a new way to keep track of your diet then look no further. Download FitClick today!

If you’ve ever had to shell out money for current literature on correct medical procedure for emergencies you know just how expensive it can be! What if there was a way to get a great medical reference tool that fits in your pocket for just $9.99? Well now you can with EMS Field Guide by Informed!

The first screen you’ll see in this app is the “Topics” screen. There are a variety of topics that are covered in this app from Airway and Trauma down to Poisons and Emergency Medications! Touching any topic will bring up a list of things under that topic to choose from.

Something you’ll notice when you’re looking at the list of topics is that some of them have a small graphic just to the right of them. Some of them represent the fact that the information contained within has picture illustrations while other times they show you that there is a calculator for something contained within them.

There are three other buttons at the bottom of the main menu screen. The “Calculators” button will bring up a list of a variety of different kinds of medical calculators need! The other two buttons are for bookmarks and letting you know more about the developers of the app and why they decided to develop it.

If, while you’re browsing, you find some information that you want to be able to get to quickly at a later date, bookmarking it is very simple. All you have to do is touch the screen anywhere and a bar will appear at the bottom of the screen. Touching the “+” button will add a bookmark to the page that you’re currently on.

I could go on, but what you need to know is that this app has a lot of quality information and its presented in a very easy to use format! Since I’m not a medical professional I don’t know how helpful this would be to someone like that. What I do know is that there is a lot of information that I would never have known on my own! Bike Doctor ($4.99)

Review – “Let your iPhone teach you how to fix bikes!”

If you enjoy riding bikes and would like to save yourself some serious money at the bike-repair shop, Bike Doctor may be just the right medicine! Bike Doctor is an app that will give you detailed instructions on how to perform various maintenance/repairs on your bike!

The various repairs and maintenance procedures in this app are sorted by the areas of the bike that you are working on. When you open up the app you’ll be greeted by a list of all the categories that are available. To the right of each category is a description of how many repairs are available in that category.

Touching any category from the main menu will take you to a list of the repairs in that category. When you find the repair you are interested in and open it up the first screen you see tells you everything that you will need to perform the repair. These lists include everything that is necessary from wrenches and screw drivers to things like grease or cleaning rags.

Once you have opened up a repair to view there is a small bar that appears at the bottom of the screen. On the left side of this bar are “Prev” and “Next” buttons that allow you to navigate through all of the information. I really liked the way the repairs were divided up into separate screens. It made it much easier to keep track of exactly where you were as you are performing the repair.

When you finish your repair all you have to do is touch the “done” button in the bottom right corner to go back to the previous menu that you were in. To head back to the main menu screen from there you’ll also need to touch the “Bike Doctor” button in the upper left corner of the screen.

Another really nice feature of this app is the Bike diagram. Touching the “Bike” button in the upper right corner of the main menu will bring up a full-screen diagram of a bicycle with a bunch of little red circles on it.  Touching any of the small red circles will take you to a list of repairs that can be performed on that area of the bike. This feature is especially nice if you’re not familiar with the names of all the different parts of a bike.

The information you’ll find in this app is detailed and thorough. While you might find some of it by just scouring the internet, it is highly unlikely that you’ll find it laid out as well as it is in this app. The pictures that are included are really great too because they help you see what is being described as you read.

Whether you’re a serious bike enthusiast, or someone that would just like to learn to take care of their bike themselves, Bike Doctor is a great reference that you can carry in your pocket in your iPhone or iPod Touch! The app is currently available for $4.99 and the developers have stated that they will be updating the app with new content in the future. Download your copy today!

Review – “Find out what your perfect bike looks like!”

If you’re looking to buy a bicycle in the near future you owe it to yourself to check out this app. The SizeMyBike app allows you to find out what the measurements of an ideal bike for you! The way it does this is by asking you for several different measurements of your body. It uses those measurements to figure out the dimensions of your perfect bike are!

While some people will see the $4.99 price tag and ignore this app, if it helps you to pick the right bike this is a relatively small price for anyone to pay. When you open the app up you’re greeted by the SizeMyBike logo and a menu of options at the bottom of the screen.

The first thing you’ll need to do is enter your body measurements into the app. To do this you just touch the “Body” button at the bottom of the screen and then fill in all the empty boxes with the correct measurements, and all measurements must be entered in millimeters. While this is not a a huge deal for most countries, it would have been nice if the developers included the option to enter measurements in other formats as well (inches, centimeters, etc.).

Once you get all of your measurements figured out and entered in, all you have to do is touch the “Run” button in the lower right corner of the screen. In just a few seconds the app will do some math and figure out all the dimensions of the bike that is right for you!

After you enter in your measurements the app will give you the dimensions for two different types of bikes. The first one shows you dimensions for a distance bike, and the second one will show you to the dimensions for a Mountain bike. Switching between these two bikes done by touching the “Road” or “Mountain” buttons at the bottom of the screen.

If you have any questions about measurements, or about selecting a bike using the results of this app there is plenty of supplementary information. To access this information just touch the “About” button in the lower right corner of the screen. It can also be accessed by touching the “i” button in the lower left corner of all the other screens in the app.

Whether you’re a complete novice, or a serious cycler, the information in this app is laid out and explained extremely well. There’s nothing really flashy about the interface, but it’s simple and offers a wealth of information.

The authors of the app are up front in the “About” area of the app as they state that you’ll still want to fine tune the exact measurements of your bike. With that said, this app will make it much easier to get a general idea of what you’re looking for! So whether you’re a serious cycler, or you’re new to the sport and looking for your first bicycle what are you waiting for? Download your copy of SizeMyBike today!

Food is something that everyone loves, but few of us want to take the time it takes to learn to make it. Whether you love cooking, eating or both Chinese Food In Minutes will have you making great food in no time!

Chinese Food In Minutes is based on a TV series of the same name and offers a variety of different recipes for great Chinese food! When you open up the app for the first time you’ll be introduced to the chef in the app, Ching He Huang with a video the first time you open up the app.

After the brief intro video plays you’ll be taken to the main screen of the app. At the bottom of the screen is a menu for accessing the various areas of the app. The “Recipes” tab is where you start out and is where you’ll find recipes to check out. There are two views that you can toggle with the button at the top of the screen and they are sort by Category andsort by “Episodes,” which is by what episodes the recipes are in.

Once you find a recipe all you have to do is touch it and it will come up full screen. You’ll see a brief description of the recipe, as well as a picture of it and a menu bar on the right side of the screen. You can use it to move between the “Summary,” “Ingredients,” and “Step by Step.”

Another really cool feature of this app is that some of the recipes actually have video showing how to make them instead of just a picture! If there is a video available for your recipe you’ll see a play button over the top of the photo on the “Summary” page. To play a video all you have to do is touch it like you would any youtube video and it will play.

So once you find a recipe that you want to make and that you feel comfortable it’s time to go shopping! This app makes that extremely easy by allowing you to add a recipe to your “Shopping” list. To do so just open the recipe you want and touch the “Addingredients to shopping” button. Once you do all of the needed ingredients show up on your shopping list that is built into the app.

Something else I found interesting is that if you select a recipe, but you aren’t sure what else would go well with it, this app can actually make suggestions for you! To do this all you have to do is add a recipe to your “Menu” and then go to the “Menu” page and touch the “Suggest items to complete my menu” button.

The load times and information in this app are excellent, and the video demonstrations are very easy to follow. With that said I honestly kind of expected more of the recipes to have video demonstrations. Especially when you consider that this app is $4.99. Overall though, the app is good, and the integrated shopping list makes it both an informative and practical way to learn to make new food. So what are you waiting for? Aimee’s Babies Baby Massage ($2.99)

If you’re a parent of an infant, you know how difficult it can be to get them to relax at times. Whether your child just has a temper or they have something that is irritating them like gas, the massagetechniques found in this app can help you calm them down. The techniques shown in this app are all recommended by the developer of the app, Aimee, who works as a pediatric occupational therapist, and so you can use them with confidence!

When you open up Aimee’s Babies Baby Massage you’ll a small disclaimer that this app is not a substitute for visiting a doctor for a child that needs it. Once you touch Okay you’ll be taken straight to the main menu. At the bottom of the screen you’ll find links to additional information/contact information for Aimee.

The first menu button at the top of the screen will take you to a screen explaining when you should use the massage techniques contained in this app. Basically it says that if your child’s problems are most likely related to them being sick or having hurt themselves you should take them to a doctor, and not expect these techniques to fix them.

The second menu option from the home page will explain the “Benefits of Massage.” Just a few of the major benefits are that it can give them more restful sleep, aid digestion and improve their bodies natural immune system, but there are many more!

Once you’re ready to start learning about the massage techniques all you need to do is touch the “Massage Strokes” button and then select one of the available options on the massage strokes screen.

Each massage stroke page has a description of how it is performed. While it’s pretty easy to tell what to do from the reading the description, I think most people will want to just watch the video. To watch the video just touch the “Play” button in the lower right corner and you’ll see a video of Aimee performing and describing the massage stroke.

Whether or not you prescribe to the idea that you can improve your baby’s immunity, motor skills, ability to sleep, etc. at the very least these techniques will be something that your baby and you can both enjoy. Most of the time material like this is fairly expensive and so this app is really a steal at just $2.99. Whether you’re a parent or you take care of an infant regularly, I would recommend that you download this app and give some of these techniques a try!

There has definitely been a movement in the last few years towards more and more people taking up pole dancing as a form of fitness and exercise. If you’re one of these people I think you’ll definitely benefit by having this App around when you want to practice.

Let me be upfront and say that although I did spent quite a bit of time playing around with this app, viewed probably every one of the 100+ photos and nearly half of the videos included in this App – I did not try out any of the moves myself. This is for two reasons – one, I do not have (nor do I plan to anytime in the near future) have a Pole installed in my house. Second, that when begining any sort of fitness routine you should always consult an expert to begin with – even the App itself advises to start out with an expert helping out out.

So lets say that you’ve been to a couple of classes, or maybe you’re just interested in trying out a couple of different beginner moves to decide to join a local studio or not. Either way, having this App around is going to be very handy. Not only is there an informative and extensive gallery of moves ranging from Beginner to Expert, but there are also videos which can be watched at any time to show you the exact form and procedure for each move. The layout is easy to use, and the graphics (especially the photos and videos themselves) are high-quality. You’re going to get what you pay for with this App.

There are a few extra added bonuses like being able to email an expert from within the App, featured videos from the Apps sponsors including information about PoleJunkies Camps and Circuits.

Spending some time watching these useful videos made me realize just how acrobatic and strong one needs to be in order to properly do most of these complex moves. There’s no way the average woman would be able to do this right away. The only way you’re going to be able to successfully master Pole Dancing is doing three things: Practice, Practice, Practice. I think that having Pocket Pole Studio in your pocket is going to be the leg-up you need to motivate you to do just that, and gives you all the information you’ll need at any time – as you do not need to be connected to wifi or data to use this App – everything is stored right on to your iPhone.

Review – “Help your body lose weight!”

There are lots of things programs have asked of you to do to lose weight in the past. Obviously watching what you eat and getting some exercise are always good places to start. If, like most people, you find it difficult to find time to work out every day then you might want to check out the Lazy Diet app by Bliss Software!

When I opened up this app for the first time I was a little lost. I honestly think I just expected that there would be more interface to the app. The first thing you’ll want to do is go set your information by touching the settings button in the bottom left corner of the main screen. Basically what you’ll need to enter is your gender, height and weight information. You can also set a passcode for this app if you don’t want anyone messing up your timer.

Once you get all of your information entered you’ll notice that this app will also calculate your BMI (Body Mass Index). This is supposed to be an indicator of how healthy you are. I will put a little disclaimer in here, this index is not going to be accurate for a lot of people because it’s just impossible to set a number on what weight should go with what height for everyone. for example, even when I was in college playing basketball on the school team, my playing weight was about 215 lbs. According to the BMI index this is considered “Overweight” for someone that is 6’5″ and that was when I was probably in the best shape of my life.

After you set everything up to get started you’ll want to touch the “set time” button on the right side of the screen towards the top. This will allow you to set an interval of 30, 45, or 60 minutes. Once you get your interval all you have to do is pop in your headphones and touch the play button at the bottom of the screen. That’s it! Just sit back and listen as you help your body naturally release more human growth hormone which will help you generate muscle, and therefore burn fat!

Something that I really appreciated about this app is the iPod integration. It would get old pretty fast just listening to the wave sounds by themselves, but you can select playlists or individual songs from your iPod library and listen to them while this app is working! To select your playlist just touch the button in the upper right corner of the screen.

The playlist screen is simple. It shows your current progress and timer settings at the top of the screen, and a list of all the songs that you’ve added to your current playlist. Adding more songs to your list is simple. Just touch the “+” button in the upper right corner of the screen and select all of the songs/playlists that you want to include. Your music will start/stop playing along with the wave sounds when you press play.

I’ll have to admit that I’m a little skeptical as to whether this will actually help you to lose weight. With that said, the developers of this app are up front in letting you know that weight loss is not likely to be achieved without at least some kind of diet control and/or exercise. With that said, this may be the easiest way I’ve ever seen to help make your diet/exercise more effective! Best of all it’s extremely cheap at just $1.99. If you’re serious about losing weight, and you have an iPhone or iPod Touch then what are you waiting for? Head to the App Store and grab a copy of “Lazy Diet” today!

Ever feel like other alarm clock apps are lacking all the features that you want? If so, then definitely give this app a good look. Developed by App Gem Ltd., Alarm Clock Audio covers everything from alarms to napping, and customization options that you may not find in similar apps.

When you open up the app for the first time it opens to the default time display screen. On this screen you’ll see a set of icons along the bottom.

Clicking on the “P” will take you to the power nap option. Adjust the sliders to determine how long you’d like to sleep then hit “Start Nap.” Click the “Settings” button and you can tweak features such as the sound, how the alarm goes off (fade in and / or vibrate), and whether you’ll enable the snooze option.

Clicking the “L” will take you to the lullaby option. Use this to play music as you fade into sleep. The best part about this is that you can set it to play playlists of your music as you go to sleep, or you can opt for a default sound. Set your music, adjust the sliders to how long you’d like it to play, and then enjoy sleeping in style!

Clicking the “I” will take you to all of the Settings, including those discussed above. You can add alarms that are a single alarm or ones that go off multiple times per week. You can choose sounds for each, designate how they go off, and if the snooze is allowed. You can also change the theme between four different styles, including a classic clock display and versions of an analog clock.

In a nutshell, while this app may seem to be another alarm clock app it may actually be the app that thinks of everything you’ve been looking for! Currently selling in the App Store for $0.99 you should take a look at it today!

Do you have big aspirations in life?  If you’re like most people you what you want to do with your life, but you have no idea how you’re going to get there.  Well that’s where the Life Goals app will come in handy!  Life goals is an app that is designed to help you look at your life from a different perspective.  There are so many things that most of us want to accomplish that it’s important to sometimes sit back and look at everything from a more broad perspective.  This app is a great tool to help you do that!

When you open up the Life Goals app, the first thing you’ll see is a list of categories for your goals.  There are a variety of different categories that range from Career and Art to Health, Finances and relationships.  To add new goals, or new categories, all you have to do is touch the “Edit” button in on the screen that you want to add them to.  You’ll see a “+” button in the upper left corner of the screen.  Touching it adds a new item to the screen that you’re working on.  You can then edit it by touching leaving edit mode and touching the little blue arrow to the right of it.

Once you have all your goals set up you have several different options for viewing them in the menu at the bottom of the screen.  The “To Do” screen will show you an overview of all your goals.  It sorts them based on “Effort” they will take, the “Impact” they will have and the date that they need to be finished if you have a specific date.  While it takes a little while to enter in all the information in this way, this option really brings a unique perspective to your life!

For the visual people out there this app also offers several charts that will help you prioritize your tasks.  There is a “Matrix” and a “Life Chart,” as well as a “Chart Stats” screen that gives a quick summary.  While the charts are kind of neat to look at, they are not quite as big of a deal as the “To Do” list is.  What they can do though is help you to realize if you have realistic goals set or not.

To sum it all up there are some good and bad things about this app.  The bad thing is that it will take you a significant amount of time to get it set up the way that you want.  Not only will you have to think of and enter all of your goals, but you’ll also have to enter “Effort” and “Impact” fields, as well as suggested due dates for all of them.  The good thing about this app is that it can help you to gain great perspective on your life very easily.  That and it’s only $3.99!  If you’d like see how your life can change with a little bit of perspective then you should definitely check out the Life Goals app.  So what are you waiting for?  If you’re still reading this then go ahead and check out Life Goals in the App Store today!

Whether you are concerned for yourself or a family member having quick access to reliable information is always a great help. With Symptom Checker you can look up more than 40 symptoms and find out how to treat them, and when it might be time to visit a doctor.

There are a number of things about this app that really work and the first is that it separates symptoms into children and adults. This is very important because the same symptom could mean completely different things and could be much more serious for children rather than adults, or vice versa.

Once you get past that screen you can easily find the symptom you are looking to find more information about. The app then gives you information on how to treat the problem, what warning signs to look out for and when it is best to consult a doctor. This feature can save you wasted doctor’s visits and make sure you get to the doctor when you really need to.

Like any app that is built from a website it also gives you easy access to much of the vast tomes of information that you can find on the Mayo Clinic website. You can get further information on specific illness or problems, as well as information about how to get the right treatment and where to go.

The app even gives you information about the Mayo Clinic itself including a way to schedule an appointment or to have all those questions you have always wondered about the Mayo Clinic answered.

I was surprised to find this app because like many people when I think of finding out more information about symptoms or problems, WebMD is usually my first stop. But this app is very useful, although I would like to see it expanded a little more, but for a free app it is not half bad and it does give great information.

When you open the app you are asked for basic information such as your name and your due date or last menstrual period. I thought it was a little strange that it asked for my name, as if I would forget but I guess it someone wanted to keep track of a friend’s pregnancy.

From there you get a countdown of how far along you are and a timeline of how long until your due date. If you got to weekly info you are given tons of great information and pictures. You will get a picture of what is going on inside your body as well as what your baby looks like. It will also give you an idea of just how big your baby is.

It even gives you the option to add your own picture so that you can keep track of the inside and the outside throughout your pregnancy.

You can then go to journal and keep track of all those important moments of your pregnancy. For those who are particularly brave you can keep track of  your growing measurements and your thoughts. You can even put in when you have a doctor’s appointment and ask the app to remind you whenever you sign in so that you don’t forget.

Other great features are kick counters and contraction counters to an entire section on birth. You can watch a video of what your baby has to go through when it starts to make its way out and just what is happening every time you feel one of those painful contractions.

The amount of information that this app offers is amazing and that fact that you can customize the look based on the sex of the baby or the season that it is due, is a fun little feature.

Normally I would say that $4.99 is pricey for an app but the amount of features and information that this app offers is truly worth the price. Having all that info and picture with me is great, because one thing that always comes when people find out that you are pregnant, are tons of questions. Keeping track also helps create great memories that you will treasure once the pregnancy has come and gone.

REVIEW – “A wealth of cookbooks and recipes right at your fingertips!”

As a busy student, wife and soon to be mother, finding easy and fast recipes always ranks high on my list. Finger Cookbook brings a wide variety of recipes right to my iPhone and I never have to worry about finding a decent recipe for dinner.

When you open this app you get a listing of different cookbooks that are available for download. The cookbooks and come with great pictures and a good sense of the different recipes that are available in each cookbook.

One thing to note is that you will have to download the cookbook before you can view any of the recipes. This does not take long at all so you can have the recipes in moments.

There is a wide range of recipes and I personally liked the Asian cookbook and the French cookbook mainly because my husband is Asian and I adore French food. It allows both of us to experience the foods we love whenever we want.

One thing I will note is that there do not seem to be many updates or additions of cookbooks. I would like to see this app updating more often and I might even be willing to pay for if it did so.

Another nice feature might be the ability to check off ingredients or steps. This could be useful but it is not entirely necessary and something that I can easily do without.

All in all this app is like having a free cookbook which means that what you see is what you get.  But considering it is a free app you get enough recipes to keep you busy for quite awhile.

With everyone looking for new ways to eat healthier this app can become an invaluable tool in helping to turn away from that cheeseburger. Restaurant Nutrition has the nutrition facts for a number of your favorite restaurants so that you know exactly what it is you are eating.

The interface is very easy to use. All you have to do is sign your name into the app so that it can easily keep track of your eating habits and let you  know just what your calories are for the day or for the week.

The main screen allows you to search through an alphabetical list of dozens of different popular restaurants. From A & W to Chili’s to KFC to all your favorites, and this app is always adding new restaurants.

Then you can go through the different menu sections in order to find your meal choice. Once you find you can scroll through a wealth of nutritional information that helps you decide whether it fits into any of your dietary needs. At the bottom of the screen you are able to check whether you ate that item today or if you ate it on a previous day.

This app is so easy to use and since it is free you cannot go wrong. Knowing what the calorie and fat content is for some of those greasy fast foods might get you to choose to eat healthier every once and while. But at some restaurants the salads are actually worse than the burgers, so knowing just what to eat can help you reach a healthier weight.

I love this app not only because it is simple to use but it is a nice and simple way to check up and see if that burger that does not sound that terrible really is what I think it is. Though it may also ruin some of my favorite foods as I realize just how unhealthy they can be.
