RandomPlay ($0.99)

REVIEW – “Discover music you didn’t know you had with this app!”
If you’re like me you’ve probably accumulated a lot of music over the years. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a fun tool to navigate through it and discover music that you haven’t listened to in a long time? Well thanks to Chilli X and their new iPhone app RandomPlay, doing just this has never been easier!
When you open RandomPlay you will see 12 different album covers and the first random song that was selected will start playing. To find out what songs the app has randomly selected all
you have to do is touch and hold on one of the album covers. A little box pops up that tells you the name of the artist and the name of the song.
Switching between songs is as easy as touching the cover of the song you wish to listen to. You can also pause by touching the song you are currently listening to. Once you are either tired of the current set of 12 songs or you have listened to them all you can get a new list of songs by shaking your device. This makes it easy to browse through a
lot of random songs very quickly!
If you would like to create a list of 12 songs that you are interested in the best way to do that is to double tap tracks to replace them with new ones. This will allow you to create a custom list of 12 tracks that you are interested in. I’ll have to admit that I was a little bit skeptical of this app, but the more I played with it the more I appreciated the visual nature of this app. It really does help you to rediscover your own music library!
For a first release this app is very solid, but as with any new app there is room for improvement. I found myself
missing all of the playback controls of the iPod app such as volume control and seek. While you still have the volume buttons on the side of your device it would have been nice to see features like these implemented within the app either through gestures such as swiping and/or a separate “controls” screen. The other thing I would liked to have seen is for the song that you are currently playing to keep playing when you leave the app. It was mildly irritating that you had to stay inside the app to play the song.
With that said, for just $0.99 I think that you will be pleased with this app. The app was very stable, and I had no issues figuring out how it worked. If you do there is a “i” button in the bottom right corner that will walk you through it all. If you enjoy music and have a lot of it I would highly recommend that you check this app out. I have found it to be one of the most useful apps out there for browsing my music library. So what are you waiting for? Download it today!
