Among the thousands of iPhone apps out there, there are always a few that stand out – to me, Pair It! is one of those of apps. But don’t just take my word for it, download it now while they are having a special price of 2.99 – I promise you won’t be sorry.
For any foodies or winos out there, you will be the first to appreciate this app. Although I never went to culinary school and the closest I will ever come to being a sommelier is through the wine classes I took at our local city college, I would like to commend Chef Bruce Riezenman, creator of this app, as I believe he deserves some sort of an award.
Pair It! is a fully searchable, easy to use app that opens up the world of food, wine and pairing them together. For anyone who likes wine, food, throwing dinner parties or just wants to impress with a special gift, this app will definitely help. There are four searchable categories aside from the general search: food, wine, swirl and pairings (pairings includes “my favorites” and “Chef Bruce’s Picks”. Each category is loaded with information, suggestions, pairings and general information.
The food category is searchable by specifics like cheeses, salads, entrees, desserts, etc. The wine category is broken up by red, white, sparkling, etc. Each of these holds information that can be used when pairing, cooking, tasting or looking for something new. Within each of these, Pair It! has the option to email the information or add a personal note that is saved with the specific wine or food. When I first discovered the “add note” feature, I all but screamed in sheer excitement – finally a way to save reminders about specific things: I really loved this wine, great appetizer for a party, Brad’s favorite – make again… Whatever the note may be, this is a great way to keep it handy.
Another feature that I really enjoyed was the Swirl option. Similar to the UrbanSpoon app in that it is basically a shake for random results type of deal, “swirling” gives you a paired food and wine that will have you all but running to the kitchen. For example, a quick shake will give you Carmenère wine and baked rigatoni with eggplant – yum! The paring detail allows you to email, add a note or add to favorites in case you want to revisit. The food that is paired 
with the wine is also so detailed that it is practically a recipe – food and wine guide, what more could you ask for?
Although there are other features of this app that are great, I will let you discover them on your own. With over 1,000 different dishes and 180 wines, it’s as though the pairings are endless (the About Pair It! section boasts over 20,000). Whether you are entertaining a group, looking for a quiet night in or just want something new to discover, this app is what you are looking for.
