REVIEW – “You will be on your way to pro Cranes in no time!”
Origami has always been interesting to me. When I was younger, my little brother’s doctor used to make him cranes and other various paper creatures to keep his mind off of the various asthma attacks and other treatments that he would go in for. Now, fifteen years later, I still think about the times when I was a child and I would get these strangely appealing animals, starts, boxes and all of the other things that are made through origami. And although I never learned how to do any of these amazing folding tricks with paper, I can now as Origami – Pack is the teacher that I never had.
The app starts out with four different things you can make through origami: a helmet, a crane, a Shuriken and a box. Although I have never seen the helmet before, it still would be something really cool to make. And as most of us have seen the crane, it is still intriguing as I am sure that most of us have no idea what the first fold would be!
Once you choose which thing to make, Origami – Pack gives you step-by-step instructions that show you when and where to fold, when to turn over and what each next step should be. Although you can’t actually a fold a piece of paper, the instructions are to drag your finger along the screen to imitate the motion that you should be doing. We all know that a paper crane isn’t going to fly out of the phone after it’s made, so these instructions work if you want to follow along with a really piece of paper as well (origami paper works the best for a reason, by the way).
So far I have done both the crane and the Shurkien. I walked through the instructions on the app first and then I tried it out with some old origami paper I had lying around from when I thought it would be fun to learn but never actually did it. Amazingly, it worked. The instructions, luckily for us, are pretty straightforward and easy to follow and imitate. For anyone who is interested in learning some of the basics of origami, this is a great app. And for only 99 cents, it’s even better. You will be on your way to pro Cranes in no time!
