Number Munchers ($.99)
Version 1.0
REVIEW – “The old classic returns to make Math fun!”
As a kid I actually really enjoyed playing Number Munchers on the computer. It was simple, fun and the little cut scenes were completely hilarious. To be truthful the game did not transfer as well to the iphone as I would have liked.
The point of of the game is to eat the numbers that satisfy the situation given. For example if you are practicing multiples then you would start looking for multiples of 2, 3, 4, and so on. The game also offers you the chance to work on your prime numbers, factors, and your equalities and inequalities.
Now in order to eat the numbers you just double tap the number you want to eat on the grid. But you have to be careful because the evil troggles are just waiting to kill you if you step into their path. If you single tap you can move square to square and have more control over your movements. But once you understand how the muncher moves, you can start to use the double tap feature safely.
The gameplay is basically the same as the PC version that I remember enjoying so much. But the cut scenes have lost all their charm. This isn’t to say that they will not make your kids laugh but just that I did not get to relive the “Great Moments in Muncher History” like I wanted. Though if I really had my way they would do the cut scenes from Math Munchers because those scenes always had me laughing out loud, not to mention that the graphics were significantly better.
But while this game may get boring quickly to adults even though the levels do get increasingly difficult. This seems like a game that kids will love even more. They will look forward to the cut scenes and trying to get their name on the high score board.
I remember that I used really enjoy math when I was younger not only because it was easier but because games like this turned it into second nature and I really became rather quick at it.
This is a great game that both kids and adults will like but if you are a fan of the computer versions like me you might be a little disappointed. I am glad to have this game but I don’t think I will be playing this version all that often, instead it really makes me want to dig out my old version of Math Munchers.
