MocoSpace is one of the most popular Chat Apps for the iPhone, which recently got an update that now features photo sharing.
If I had to sum up MocoSpace as quickly as possible it’s MySpace meets Chatrooms – on your iPhone. While I’m personally really into Social Networking this is just a touch too Social for me – but I can aboslutly see the appeal for the millions of users (that’s right, they purport to have 11 Million active users) that do use this, probably daily.
I’ll be honest, it’s probably a fantastic tool for chatting with your friends, sending IMs instead of proper (for-pay) texts, and sharing photos. You can sync your MocoSpace Chat Profile with your Facebook Profile and import friends (or invite them) to use the App. You have an in-App Profile that you can customize, and it shows all of your current events, friends statuses, messages, photos and more.
Foremost, there’s the Chat Rooms, Dozens of them. While most are broken up by Age, Location or Nationality, there are a few for interests as well. To be honest, I did not spend that much time in this section of the App because I have no interest in live-chat with strangers. However, if you are, than this is a great App for you, there are literally hundreds of people on in each room at any given time. I, however, grew out of that phase.
I think the feature I would use the most, would be the IM and photo sharing. For social butterflies who want to chat and share in real-time, and on your Mobile – instead of Facebook, this is a fantastic alternate. There are so many ways to interact with others. While Facebook is generally used to connect with or reconnect with existing friends, this App has the added element of meeting new friends. Please be advised that there are some *very adult* conversations and chats in lots of the rooms and profiles. There, you have been warned.
Additionally, should you use the App a lot you can earn “Badges” for different things, uploading a certain number of photos or having a certain number of friends.
The fun doesn’t end in the App itself, your profile is carried over to MocoSpace.com where you can play games, share links, use eCards, and much more. Also, online you can search to add friends from twitter, Myspace, Gmail and lots more. It’s a great addition the App for the user who wants to have an online portal.
