Mega Man II ($.99)
Version 1.5
REVIEW – “The old favorite comes to the iPhone in a way you might not expect.”
Many of the classic games that are being re-released on the iPhone are getting an entirely new look. This is not so for Mega Man II, this game is just like the original and it brings back all the fun as if you were playing your Nintendo all over again.
To play this game you are given controls that are much like a Nintendo controller, you have your D-pad and your A and B buttons. But what is interesting about this game is that you can choose which orientation you would like to play it in. The game and the controls will automatically adjust to fit both orientations so you can experiment to see which one works best for you.
Then the rest of the game is just like the original with pixelated graphics and all. You move through side-scrolling levels jumping and shooting enemies along the way. Each level is focused on defeating a different boss and there are plenty of bosses to go through.
A word to the wise this game can get a little frustrating and not only because the new controls might take a little getting used to, and because some of the levels are just plain annoying. But what you may notice is that the levels are actually easier than the levels you might remember from the original Mega Man.
Though if the game feels too easy then it may be because you have toggled out of Classic Mode. Classic Mode is a little bit harder and might be more like you remember it, whereas the other mode is a bit easier concerning the controls and the enemies. Great for kids who want to play and good for adults who want to relive the old days of their favorite classic.
But other than that you will get to relive all the fun of the classic Mega Man music and sound effects.
For someone who has never played the original Mega Man I still found this game a great deal of fun. But it’s lack of modern graphics might not be enough to impress kids or even people who never were fans of the game.
