Review – “Creative puzzle game with accelerometer control!”
This is one of those games that seems extremely simplistic on the surface, but the more you get into you realize just how complex it really is! Mazeness is a game where you have to get several balls to all be on certain squares at the same time to win. The catch is that when you move one ball, they all move in the same
direction. While the first couple of levels are fairly easy, the game gets progressively more difficult!
The main menu of this app is simple, nothing too flashy. In the background you’ll hear some synthesized music. The music isn’t bad, but I felt that it did get a little old after a while. Thankfully there are controls to turn music and sounds off independently of each other in the “Options” menu. You’ll also find options here to toggle vibrate on or off and decide whether you want to use
the accelerometer to control the game or not.
There is a brief help screen to get you started in the menu, but I would recommend that you just jump right in with this particular game because it’s pretty simple. Once you start a new game you’ll be taken directly to the game screen. You’ll notice a bunch of holes on the screen, as well as the two balls that you get to move and targets for you to place them on!
There are two different ways that you can control the action. The first way, the default option, is to use the accelerometer. You’ll need to hold your device level as you get started, and then all you have to do is
tilt it in the direction that you need the balls to use! While this is easy enough, it may be difficult to do in some circumstances. With that said, I definitely preferred the other mode of control which is “swiping” the screen in the direction that you want to move!
The game is timed and tracks your high scores. With that said, if you need to pause the game, all you have to do is touch the “Pause” button in the upper right corner. This will bring up the exact same menu that you see when you open the app. From here you can start a new game, continue your current
game in progress, or access any of the other options and features!
The only real downsides I saw with this game is that the graphics are perhaps a little bit overly simple, and it may get frustrating really fast for people that aren’t really into puzzle games! With that said, sometimes simple is better and what this game lacks in “flashiness” factor it makes up with in creativity and stability within the app!
All in all the game currently offers 44 levels according to the developer, and that should keep even the most ambitious puzzler busy for a really long time! If strategy games are your thing, or if you’ve just been looking for something to work your brain while you wait on something, I would highly recommend that you head to App Store today and download Mazeness!
