Version 1.3
REVIEW – “Locate and track earthquakes around the world!”
This is a great app for anyone that is interested in earthquakes or happens to live near a fault line. Mappity Quakes gives you a map of earthquakes around the world and then lets you know the magnitude and other information.
What this app does is give you a map of the world with circles to show where earthquakes have occurred in the last 24 hours. If you click on any of the circles it gives you an easy pop up with the magnitude and location. You can then click the arrow for even more information, such as when the quake occurred, at what depth, how many stations reported it and more.
You can even choose to view the earthquakes in list view and then sort by date, magnitude and distance. For anyone studying volcanoes this a great way to see where they are occurring and just how strong they are. For anyone living in places like California (where I grew up) it can be a great way to not only track quakes but get one touch information on earthquakes that may have occurred nearby.
Now if you are looking at the map you will notice that the circles are different sizes and colors. Well the darker the color the more recent the earthquake and the larger the circle the stronger the earthquake.
I really like this app but I would also like to see it include a few more features. Like the ability to toggle to a map that shows where all the fault lines are so you can see why the quakes are happened where they are.
I would also like to see information about what the magnitude means (in relative terms) without being directed to another website and leaving the app.
Those are minor requests though and they may or may not be necessary or wanted by most people. I highly recommend this app and I also recommend getting it quickly because the regular price of this app is $4.99 and it is only free for a limited amount of time!
