REVIEW – “Take a great party game with you on the road!”
I was so excited when I saw this game in the App Store, and especially excited that there was a free version to try out as well! If you’ve never played Mad Libs then you’re definitely missing out because this is one of the most fun games you will ever play in a large group of people. The basic idea of the game is that you have to choose words to fill in the blanks of a story and the results are often quite hilarious.
The graphics are cheesy and there are not really any sound effects or music to speak of. The developers did do a good job of making this app feel silly, which if you are familiar with Mad Libs is very fitting. When you start Mad Libs you’ll be taken to the main menu where you will need
to select a booklet of Mad Libs to use. This free version of the game comes with a few free ones, and there is the option to buy a bunch more for $3.99 through in-app purchase.
Once you select a booklet you’ll see a list of titles of different stories to select one from. Once you select a story you have will have to go through and pick words for all of the blanks. You do this by reading the type of word underneath the blank such as “noun,” “verb,” or one of several other types and making sure that you put a word of that type. When you read the story at the end you’ll see why.
There are several ways that you can play Mad Libs. You can have everyone just shout out their words and pick the best ones, you can take turns or you can just have one or two people fill the whole thing in. This game is definitely a lot more fun in a big group though!
While the interface of this app was very simple there are a couple of small oversights that I did notice. The first is that if you accidently touch the button to go to the next word there is no way to go 
back a word and change it. The second is that if you happen to get a phone call while playing this game you will lose everything in the one that you were working on. This is not a huge deal though and can be avoided by going into “airplane mode” before you start playing.
Whether you’re looking for a quick diversion or a good party starter Mad Libs has what you’re looking for. Not only do you have the few free ones that are included in this app but the ability to download a bunch more for just $3.99. I would highly recommend this app, especially if you enjoy silly word games. Check it out for free in the App Store today!
