REVIEW – “Play poker and chat for free on your iPhone!”
As a poker buff there is nothing better than a good set of poker friends that really know how to play the game. While Live Poker may not always give you access to great players, they are at least human players, and the extras that this game offers are great.
When you first download this app you are given 10,000 free chips, but if you want more than that you can download one of the paid versions, or download the free version and add chips later. I highly recommend the second option because you might find that you can grow you own pile of chips easy enough, plus the game gives you 2,000 chips a day and a lottery to win, so you’ll be able to play at least a little every day.
When you sit down to a table you are dealt into the hand and the game follows the normal rules of Texas Hold’em. In order to place a bet or raise you use a dial to p
ick your amount. These are no limit tables which can sometimes make the game interesting and others times boring with the number of people trying to bluff with all in before the flop. But what I found slightly annoying was that the dial was never that exact and I spent too much time trying to just get into the ballpark of what I wanted to bet.
But that is only a minor issues, there are bigger ones and great things that make up for it. One of the things that I thought was great was that you can buy things for fellow players. Click on their picture and you can buy then drinks, food, flowers and even tissues! This is a cute little feature and it is always funny to see a cocky player buy the entire table tissues, only to lose the hand.
The game also allows you to chat with the other players, but unless I am missing something I found it very pointless. The amount of room they leave for the chat only has space for two lines and about four words. So I would see people talking and I would get a few words and then “…” with no idea what was supposed to come after or how I was supposed to be able to see it. If there is a way please let me know because I played around in settings trying to find it.
Some other nice features are that you can connect with friends who play poker as well both through the app and through facebook. Which is fun to be able to send them gifts and receive gifts in return. I also liked that you were assigned a rank based on how well you played and how often you played, so it’s a fun challenge trying to rise through the ranks.
All in all this has to be one of my favorite apps for the iphone because it combines social networking and chat(sort of) with a really great game. I like that any time I have a few minutes I can play a few hands of poker and maybe even connect with friends.
