Review – “Create great looking photos directly from your iPhone!”
One of the most popular genres in the iTunes App Store is photography. The iPhone’s camera app can take some pretty decent pictures, but it lacks any extra filters or color modification abilities. Iris Photo Suite is an attempt to compile a variety of editing features that all work natively on the phone. This allows you to quickly try out several different effects because none of them are performed on servers across an internet connection!
When you open up Iris Photo Suite it gets right to the point. You’ll see three large buttons: “Edit,” “Click,” and “Restore.” Touching the edit button will open up your photo albums where you can 
select a photo to get started. Touching the “Click” button will open up the camera so that you can take a picture to start with. Touching “Restore” will open up the photo that you had open the last time you used the app.
Once you decide on the photo that you’d like to edit you’re taken to the main editing screen. There is a toolbar both above and below the photo that you have chosen. At the top of the screen there are four buttons. These 
buttons will allow you to edit the photo’s colors, brightness, highlights and shadows. Basically any minor adjustments that have to do with color, brightness, sharpness or contrast are done using these buttons.
One thing I will say about this app is that if you are not at least somewhat familiar with photo editing you may want to read a little bit about what terms such as “Histogram,” “Saturation and Sepia,” and “Gamma” mean. You will still be able to edit photos without this knowledge, but the true power of this app is harnessed when you understand some photography basics!
The bar at the bottom contains some basic editing tools and filters. Touching the little scissors icon will allow you to crop the image. Touching the button just to the right of that will bring up several buttons that can be used for rotating your image and/or resizing it. Just to the right of these buttons you’ll find an “Undo” and “Redo” button. 
I was fairly impressed with how well these buttons worked, there was very little delay and they didn’t seem to cause any memory leak problems either.
In the lower right corner of the screen is a button that looks like a piece of paper with writing on it. Touching it will allow you to save your picture, open up a new one, or view a list of 
textures that you can apply to your current photo. There are kinds of neat effects here from a “Vintage Canvas” effect down to “Sandstone” and “Patchwork.”
The Fx button in the lower left corner of the screen has a variety of different effects that you can choose from for your photo. There are some basic ones like “Polarizer,” “Vintage,” and “Vignette,” as well as some more unusual ones under the “Misc Fx” button. Here you’ll find filters such as “Crayons,” “Comic Scene,” “Blueprint,” and “Sketch.”
In summary, while this app has a bit of a learning curve, if you take the time to figure out how it works it is much more powerful than most of the “free” photo utilities around. If you’re a photo junkie, and you’re constantly snapping shots on your iPhone then you should grab this app up for $0.99 today. It’s a purchase that you won’t regret!
