REVIEW – “Create cocktails for your bar clientele”
With its mix of realistic game play and a cast of unreal characters, Bar Rush adds a double shot of fun to the App Store. On the surface, Bar Rush is a time-management simulation, along the lines of Sally’s Spa and Diner dash, though Bar Rush is definitely designed for Big Kids, complete with its 17+ rating.
Bar Rush starts with a thoughtful training mode, which is a refreshing change from many apps, which simply turn you loose to figure things out for yourself. Once you finish the training mode, your mission is to complete each of Bar Rush’s 6 levels, which come faster and with more complicated cocktails to create as you progress through the game.
The basic goal of Bar Rush is to beat the clock while serving your customers, thereby generating tips, which allow you to complete each level and to elevate your status from lowly suds slinger to master Mixologist. You can also post your tips to an online Leaderboard so you can see how you rank against other virtual bartenders from around the world.
The game play itself is very realistic, with literally dozens of different cocktails to mix, using a range of glasses and actual ingredients—I looked up a few recipes and each was spot on. For complex concoctions, you even have to shake your iPhone like a cocktail shaker before serving, adding to the realism.
The graphics and sound in Bar Rush, however, are almost as colorful as the characters and dialog. The setting reminded me of an Eastern European nightclub and the characters, which range from a buxom blonde to a guy in a tiger suit(?), almost defy description. To add a dose of humor, the semi-surly bar manager is always lurking in the background, quick with a wisecrack or backhanded compliment.
In summary, Bar Rush is a top shelf app in its genre. If you like fast-paced action, quirky and often funny game play or simply want to learn how to make a wide variety of cocktails, Bar Rush is definitely worth a shot.

Use your iPhone like a cocktail shaker (for select drinks) and serve. But hurry, the clock is ticking and your customers won’t wait forever.
Generate tips by mixing and serving drinks before the clock runs out. The faster you are, the more you make. Post your tip total to the Online Leaderboard where you can view your own ranking and search to see how you fare against your friends.
Vibrant animation and humorous dialog, from the quirky patrons and surly bar manager, ratchet up the entertainment level in a game that’s easy to pick up but hard to put down. But should you have to, Bar Rush automatically saves your place when you take a break or a call.
