REVIEW – “Sports cards in app form, that’s the only way to describe Score Mobile”
If you want to read the back of sports cards for hours, Score Mobile will give you a thrill. That’s not to say it’s a bad application, in fact, it’s quite good. However, it has so much text and so much uniformity that it doesn’t feel like it really belongs to you. Other applications like Sportacular allow you to customize your stats with your favorite teams thus putting all the information you want in one central location.
Score Mobile does its job, but who wants to scroll through the batting averages of players individually in descending order? Not me. Sounds more like a mathematical equation. People like options, and in Score Mobile those options are limited. You can only choose between the American and National leagues in baseball. Their stats are not divided by team or by location (North, South, East, or West), and you can’t elect to follow your favorite teams.
Still, Score Mobile deserves credit for a having an interface that speaks for itself. For once you don’t have to press buttons dumbfounded as to where they lead or use deductive reasoning. When Score Mobile launches you’ll see the score for whatever league has the latest scores. Right now, that’s baseball season. The top of the screen tells you what league you’re currently looking at, but a tap to the screen and you can select a different league to follow. Want to know the scores of yesterday’s games? Simply click the day’s date at the top of the screen and you’re there.
By refreshing itself every 2 minutes, Score Mobile brings you the latest score and news. Click on the news tab at the bottom of the screen and you’ll find the latest league headlines. If you want to more, simply follow the link and unlike other applications, Score Mobile doesn’t take you out of the application, but rather brings the news to you. Therefore, you can still move around Score Mobile’s interface. And, if you want to refresh ever minute or every 5 minutes, Score Mobile provides that option. Simply follow the “More” tab and change your settings.
Score Mobile gets the job done. But all those numbers on a small screen are liable to make even the biggest number cruncher go crossed eyed. It’s a matter of personal preference, but Score Mobile definitely gets 4 out of 5 stars.
