REVIEW – “Follow your favorite team on the go!”

MLB At Bat 1I am, and have always been, a big fan of baseball.  The problem is that they play so many games that it can be hard to keep up with what’s going on around the league.  Fortunately MLB.com has made it not only easy to do, but a lot of fun!  If you are a baseball fan, this is the app that you need to have on your iPhone!

When you open MLB.com At Bat 2009 you are taken directly to a list of all of the scheduled games for the current date with up to date stats.  Touching any game brings up either a basic box score, or a preview of the starting pitchers and team records if the game has not started yet.  Touching theMLB At Bat 2little arrow icon on the right side of any game will take you to a more detailed summary of that game.  If the game has not started yet it will show the local TV and Radio affiliates, as well as a stat line for the scheduled starting pitchers.

All of this so far is stuff that you see in a lot of the other “free” sports apps, but what separates MLB.com At Bat 2009 from those apps are the in depth features like “Gameday”.  With this app you can not only see live updates on MLB At Bat 3where every pitch was thrown, how fast it was, and what type of pitch it was; you can also listen to every MLB game live on iPhone!  Best of all, you can listen to every game with your home commentator because every game has separate audio for both the home and away team!

Don’t have time to listen to the game?  Well if you check in after the game you will find a full box score, play by play summary, video highlights, and even a condensed video of the entire game.  All of this comes at no extra charge.  The “Condensed Games” usually show up between 3 and 4 hoursMLB At Bat 4 after game time and will show video of every time there was a major event such as a strikeout, hit or stolen base.

As if all of those features was not enough to wet your appetite, this app will even allow you to watch live games from MLB.tv!  That’s right, if you have a subscription to MLB.tv you can login and watch live games anywhere from MLB At Bat 5your phone.  The only downside with this is that MLB’s blackout rules do apply, so if you are currently blacked out from viewing your favorite team’s games on MLB.tv you won’t be able to view them on your phone either.  If you’d like to try this feature out, but aren’t sure if you want to pay for it MLB.com At Bat 2009 offers video of two games for free every day, or you can also purchase individual games for just $0.99 apiece!

With a feature set like this you would think this app might cost at least $20 or $30 because a season-long subscription to just Gameday Audio costs $15.  With that in mind, even if you haven’t bought this app yet, it is still easily worth the $9.99 they have been asking for it because it offers live audio of postseason action as well!  But wait, there’s more. For a limited time MLB is offering this amazing app for half price, just $4.99. So what are you waiting for?  Go download MLB At Bat 2009 today and see what all the hype is about!!
