iSign Lite (Free)
REVIEW- “What’s Your Sign? iSign Lite Might Have It”
iSign Lite is a sampling of what is available in the full version of iSign. The app starts with an alphabetical list of 24 words available on the lite version. When a word is tapped, a computer animated person shows the sign. Users then have the option to repeat the animation or go back to the list of words. Words can be accessed alphabetically or categorically. They can also be searched and added to a list of favorites to be used in a quiz. These features would obviously be best suited to the full version, instead of the lite’s 24 words.
At first, the animations were hard to follow. But after watching one repeat a word a few times, the movements became much clearer and made watching other words easier. The animations in iSign Lite make learning American Sign Language easy during a commute or while waiting in line, but I doubt they are as effective as learning from an actual human. Also, iSign Lite does not cover any grammar or sentence formation, so users will be left with a random collection of nouns and one letter (J) along with a few feelings – but not really the ability to speak in ASL.
This app is truly meant for the person who is interested in buying the full version of iSign, but needs a preview. There is little value in this app for the person looking to pick up a few skills in sign language. There are too few words, only one letter of the alphabet, and no explanation of how to use the new vocabulary. iSign Lite, or the full version, would best be paired with a traditional sign language class as a means for review.

Developer: iDev 2
Developer’s Notes: iSign Lite is the small and free version of my iSign program. This version has 25 signs and most the functionality of iSign. The full version adds;
800 signs
volume control
the ability to add / remove favorites from the sign play screen,
category quiz mode.
We do have another application “Baby Sign ASL” specifically designed for parents teaching their children to sign that uses video a live signer and has audio.
I appreciate your taking the time to look at this application.
The whole point of the lite version is for people to try out the program without having to invest in the full version. The signs included in this version are;
boil, city,cry, danger, exaggerate, few, Friday, good, grandfather, happy, in, the letter J, muscle, our, shirt, silver, skateboard, soft, teach, telephone, thank you, these, truck, whale and why.
iSign is an ANIMATED phrase book of basic American Sign Language (ASL) gestures. Each of the gestures is modeled with a 3D character and completely animated. The vantage point for each sign was chosen so that the user can see the details of the hand positions.
I chose a diverse range of basic signs in areas such as; feelings, things around the house, numbers, colors, shapes, school, sports, etc.
Signs can be sorted alphabetically or categorically. There are favorites, a search function, and the much requested quiz mode.
