REVIEW – “Hymn Hunting Made Easy”
Wow! If you need a hymn, Hymns will help you out. This little app is packed and fully loaded when it comes to Hymn hunting.
You can search for hymns by typing in lyrics, partial lyrics or even single words. I searched for “dear” and was given a nice list of 8 hymns. Once you open a hymn you can view the lyrics, go back to your search or move forward and back through the hymns. This last feature will take you to whatever hymn comes next numerically – it won’t scan through your search results. You can also check a box in the upper right hand corner of any hymn to add it to a list of favorites.
Favorite hymns can be accessed on the main screen along with hymns listed by category. This categorical list might be most useful to the average user. There is even a full alphabetical listing of hymns. After selecting a category, “Christmas” for example, a list of applicable hymns pops up.
Hymns also allows you to “jump to hymn” which means selecting hymns by number. On top of this you can have the app take you to a random hymn.
Unfortunately the app offers only the lyrics. The developer hopes to add music soon – even better would be simple sheet music for the hymns.
