REVIEW – “This time management game seems simple but packs some unexpected twists.”
Time management games have grown in popularity in recent years and this game works to capitalize on that. When you first start off the game it seems very basic but it does not take long before the game starts to get really different and exciting. The thrill of this game is that is does not rely on the same premise but with simply different level arrangements, the game itself changes as you progress
The point of the game is that you must get the ships to the dock, unload them and then send them back out. The trick is that you cannot have the ships collide with each other. You are given complete control over how the ships come into and leave port so that any collisions between ships are your fault.
When you start out you only have two docks. Eventually some ships will appear on the screen and you will have to direct them. What you do is click the ship and then drag your finger across the screen in order to create a path for the ship to follow. Incoming ships will stay on the same course until you direct them otherwise so you need to make sure the pathway you create does not intersect with the pathway of any incoming ships.
Once a ship is in port you have to wait while the ship unloads. Ships will continue coming even when all your ports are full so you want to make sure that you get them into port and out as fast as possible in order to make room for more ships. When the ships are in the open water and are close to colliding large red circles will appear around the colliding ships in order to alert you to the upcoming issue. If two ships collide it is game over and you have to start the level over again.
Now for a $.99 game I expected this to be the bulk of the game maybe with the other levels having different ships and more ports. But the game actually does change because in later levels you have creatures that will come after your ships and cannons that will fire upon them. This completely changes the strategy for the game and really makes it very interesting and fun to play and find out what challenges are going to pop up next.
The game has simple graphics and is very responsive to the paths you create and it responds quickly if you need to avoid a collision. I like these simple games that allow you time to ease your way into them in order to develop your own strategies. There are a number of games like this that either get too hard to quickly or stay at about the same difficulty and become repetitive. Harbor Master does not fit into either one of these categories and I think it is a great value for the money.
