REVIEW – “Move over Betty Crocker!”
If you are like me, deciding what to eat can sometimes be a major issue. What if I were to tell you that there was a way for you to not only find new recipes to try but also to make a shopping list based on those recipes? Well that is exactly what Epicurious can do for you, and more. See the app that Apple featured in one of their television commercials for yourself today!
you open this app you are taken to the home screen. From here you can
select from a list of different types of recipes to browse through. Once you select a category browsing recipes is as simple as “swiping” your finger to the side to go to the next recipe. As you browse through various dishes, drinks and deserts you will notice that there are user reviews for a lot of them. The reviews show how much people have liked that dish and how many of the people that tried it would make it again.
At the bottom of the screen is a menu bar that offers several alternative way to browse and organize recipes. The “search” option will take you to a
screen where you can narrow down your results by selecting the “main ingredient,” what kind of meal you are cooking for, and various other options. There is also a “keyword” search box if you need to be more specific. Once you feel you have narrowed down your search results enough all you need to do is press the “View Recipe Results” button at the bottom and you will have a customized list of recipes to search through.

Once you have found the recipe that you are looking for you can add it to your favorites, or to your shopping list by pressing the “+” button just to the left of the recipe name on the recipe card. You can also add it to your shopping list with that same button. Then once you get ready to head to the store all you have to do is touch the “Shopping List” button at the bottom of the screen to see a list for an individual recipe on your list, or for all of the recipes on your list together.
With a database of over 25,000 recipes and features like this I was very surprised to see that this app is completely free! There are a few ads, but the ads are not intrusive at all, and this app is just so easy to use. I would highly recommend Epicurious to anyone that would like to expand their horizons when it comes to cooking. Look for it in the App Store today!
