REVIEW – “Bringing a new meaning to mobile office!”
Have you ever been out of the office and needed to print or view a document quickly? Well AltaMail by EuroSmartz may be just the utility that you need! AltaMail allows you to not only view all of your email accounts and contacts together, but also allows you to download and view attachments locally on your
device and even print emails and/or attachments!
When you open up AltaMail you will need to setup your email accounts first. This is fairly painless for the most part. The only problems that I had were with my Yahoo email account, but that has very little to do with this app. It has more to do with the fact that Yahoo has very poor support for external mail clients unless you pay for their “Plus” accounts.
If you wish to print directly from your phone you will also need to install an optional free utility called “WePrint.” This is very easy to setup and allows you to use your PC or Mac to print to any printers that you might have in your household. The great thing about this program is that if you are constantly on the go and using different computers you can actually install it on a zip drive and run it from the zip drive on other computers!
Once you have set up your email accounts, and the “WePrint” server on your computer you can then start browsing your mail, and printing
documents. While you are looking through your mail messages printing is as easy as touching the printer icon in the upper right corner when you have what you want printed selected or already opened up, selecting a printer to use and setting a few basic options. There is a menu bar of little blue buttons at the bottom of the mail screen that allows you to interact with the items that you see in whatever area you are in.
I found that the interface was a little bit confusing for me at first. The way 
that it works is that when you touch an email item it puts a check mark next to that item. Once you have the items you wish to view/interact with selected, whatever you choose to do whether it is viewing or printing or deleting, will be done to all of those messages at the same time. If you choose to view more than one email at the same time you will be given an arrow to go to the next email you selected.
Another nice featre of AltaMail is the contact management/viewing features. If you press the “Contacts” button in the menu at the bottom of the screen you will be taken to a list of all the contacts in your various email accounts. From here you can not only easily view various contacts,
but also print off contact information for any one contact, for a group of contacts, or even edit your contacts using an interface similar to the iPhone’s default contact’s application.
For those of you that deal with lots of confidential documents, this app offers another extremely nice feature. If you want to keep documents away from prying eyes all you have to do is turn on the “Application Password.” With this option turned on you must enter a password to open this app back up. Your password can be anything you want, just make sure you remember it because once it is set, the only way to open this program back up if you forget would be to delete it and reinstall!
I could go over all the features that this has in detail, but the bottom line is that this app expands the possibilities for mail on your phone. Not only does it allow you to actually save attachments to your phone, and transfer files directly from your desktop to email to other people, it allows you to print a variety of information such as emails, attachments and contacts directly from your phone! Does it allow to limit the amount of email that will be downloaded to the iphone. I am on a pay-per-kb plan and want to limit the download of the messages to the headers or a certain kb limit. The standard email-app does not allow this option.
