Wash Tub Bass ($1.99)
Version – 1.0
REVIEW – “An instrument for everyone!”
There are a lot of music related apps that will allow you to create music, or edit music, or even to produce music directly from your iPhone or iPod Touch. While some of them are easy to use, I have found none that are as simple as the Wash Tub Bass by differential enterprises!
The concept of a “Wash Tub Bass” is that you have a string stretched from a washtub to a pole, and you control the string’s pitch by tilting the pole towards the washtub or away from it. This app behaves in exactly the same way. If you tilt your device so that the screen is facing down the pitch will get lower because the string is “loose” and if you tilt your device with the screen facing upward the pitch will get higher as the string is stretched “tighter”.

When I first started this app up I noticed that the pitch would change even when I wasn’t moving the phone, and I had trouble holding it on the notes that I wanted to play. After playing with it a little bit I figured out that all I had to do was reset the “sensitivity” in the menu you find by pressing the “knobs” button in the lower right corner of the screen.
This app offers plenty of customization, allowing you to play different scales, and with varying sensitivity and volume as well. This game would be especially fun for younger children as well because it is so simple to use. With that said, if you actually want to be able to play accurate notes with this, it would take considerable practice and customization, but it is definitely possible. At only $1.99 you can definitely get your money’s worth of entertainment out of this app!

DEVELOPERS NOTES
Howdy, moo-sician!
Pluck middle for soft n’ left for loud.
Mute string by touchin’ it.
On the far right side you can pick up yer finger without pluckin’.
Tilt to change pitch like a broomhandle bass,
by stretchin’ and un-stretchin’ the string.
All the way flat with the screen pointin’ up to the sky is a high note. Hold it vertical and there’s yer middle note. Screen pointin’ to the ground is a low note.
‘Course, there’s all the in-between notes.
See, ya rotate the thing with one hand and pluck with the other. And ya rotate it so that…aw, shucks. You’ll figure it out.
Use Knobs to change it up.
Now, you be sure ‘n play real purdy for Uncle Hank!
Signed most sincerely,
Hillbilly Blues Hank
