REVIEW – “Draw four! It’s Uno!”
Who doesn’t love Uno? The classic card game is now available on the go even when you don’t have other people to play with. Uno Free! is the original game, no new tricks to learn with this app. Try to get rid of all your cards first by laying them down in matching colors and numbers.
After entering your name, the game table is shown. There are three other players and your cards are in front of you. A single tap on your hand of cards enlarges it for better viewing as well as selection of what card to throw. Cards can be dragged onto the table or double-tapped to lay them down. Uno Free! walks you through the basics of using the application the first game you play.
The directions are very welcome, as even though the game is simple to play, it does require a fair amount of tapping to get through it. Uno Free! will highlight playable cards to make your work easier, or if no cards are playable, it will highlight the draw pile for you to replenish your hand.
Uno Free! is simple to play and colorful to look at, but sometimes it is easy to lose track of what the other players are doing. If you take your eyes off the screen, you might miss whose turn it was and who played what. Sure, Uno isn’t poker, but knowing what is happening is still nice. Big changes, like changes in color, are announced on the screen for your convenience.
To increase the fun level, you can choose a color and icon to represent yourself at the Uno table. Trivial perhaps, but it will excite younger players.
So with all of these options, what is missing from the free version? Uno Free! doesn’t have all of the “special” cards like wild, draw four, draw two, reverse, skip… which ones are missing I can’t say for sure, even after playing a few hands. The full version also allows you to customize the play with different rules. Perhaps the most enticing part of the full version is the ability to play multi-player mode. The full version of Uno lets you use a wifi connection to connect to friends or other players online. There is even a tournament mode for the serious player.
Uno is a classic and unforgettable. This app brings all of that goodness to your iPhone or iPod Touch.

False advertising. Free Version does not work as described above.
Free version quits suddenly taking you to the pay to play game. After the free version lets you play between 1/2 to 1 hand of a game, it suddenly quits and goes to the pay to play. The pay to play will not let you go back to the free version. You must delete the whole application and start with the reloading of the free version only to have it quit suddenly, again, going to the pay to play.
It is false advertising.
