TruPlay Football, is a simulator that allows you to literally sit in as coach of a professional football team and see how you do. Call the shots and lead your team to victory!
When you open this app for the first time you are taken to a menu where you can choose to either play a new game or begin “league play”. One of the first things that I noticed about this game is that it is obviously intended for strategy buffs and not just casual football fans. Being someone that does really enjoy football strategy this definitely appealed to me.
The graphics in this game are not great, but you would not expect them to be spectacular in a sim game like this, it’s going to be all about the simulation engine and the gameplay itself. Something that the developer definitely overlooked though is having some way to see what actually happens on a given play. Because of the way this game is played you don’t know if your opponent was playing a “prevent” or a “nickel” formation, all you know is that you got sacked for 2 yards.
There are definitely some good points in this app though. There are quite a few plays to choose from, and the ability to set up a custom league by resetting all of the team’s attributes is a definite bonus.
This game is definitely interesting and probably worth the $2.99 that it costs, but there is definitely some room for improvement as well. If the developer continues to work on this app and implements features such as the ability to know what defense/offence the opponent runs, and possibly individual player stats I would highly recommend this app. Even as it is now though, it is still pretty fun, and I would at least give it a look!

Imagine yourself in control, as the coach of a football team. You make all the decisions, call the plays, decide whether to accept or decline a penalty, choose when to call a timeout, make the call to go for it on 4th down, even call heads or tails on the coin toss. Well imagine it no longer. Your time has come and “TruPlay Football” is here!
Features
Enjoy a single football game or indulge in the fun of league play and try to win the league championship! Have up to 2 players per game and up to 8 players per league. And the computer AI is built for intelligence and randomness. So expect a great game no matter who you play against.
If you get a phone call or your boss walks in while you are playing, don’t worry. All games are auto saved after each play and can be continued anytime!
Game Play
“TruPlay Football” is a statistical based strategy football game. You will be able to choose from 23 offensive plays and 11 defensive plays. You can double click the play to select or swipe to go to the next page in the play book. Before the game begins, you set the strengths and weaknesses for your team. You then play your opponent and try to pick the plays that will give your team the best chance of winning. In all of this, you have to balance your strengths and weaknesses with your opponent’s strengths and weaknesses. Of course, you will also want to guess what your opponent’s strategy is. And there are no ties in TruPlay Football. All ties go to sudden death overtime, where the first score wins.
Clock management was designed to make the clock as realistic as possible without a real-time clock. This allows you to get distracted or take a break without getting a delay of game penalty. You control the clock by calling a timeout or turning the hurry up option on. The hurry up option can be turned on during the game to speed your team up when on offense.
League Play
League Play consists of 8 teams split into two divisions of 4. A 14 game regular season is played, consisting of a home and an away game against every team in the league. The top two teams in each division then play each other in the playoffs to decide who plays in the championship game. A league champion is then declared from the winner of the championship game.
There can be up to 4 different leagues going simultaneously. For each league, the teams characteristics (running team, passing team, good pass defense, etc.) can be adjusted for each team before the season begins. Each team is equal in that the total team strength must add up to 100. You can also have from 0 to 8 human players in the league (currently all games must be played from the same device). All computer games will be simulated by pressing the “Sim” button by each game. The league statistics or standings can be viewed throughout and after the season.

In your review of Tru Play Football you state – Something that the developer definitely overlooked though is having some way to see what actually happens on a given play. Because of the way this game is played you don’t know if your opponent was playing a “prevent” or a “nickel” formation, all you know is that you got sacked for 2 yards — take a look at the playing field on the screen shot – at the immediate top of the playing field left and right – it shows the offensive and defensive plays – which stays on the screen through the resolution of the play – so you can tell if, say you threw a screen pass and the defense was in a nickel, 3-4, etc – so it does provide that – I find that sometimes when I’m winning, the computer will start stacking the odds – like calling penalties, etc. but all in all I LOVE it – I love footbal strategy games, and if anyone knows of any that are similar to this game, I like it – I recently downloaded Play By Play football- DON’T WASTE THE 2 BUCKS – it shows a playing field with low graphic quality – and all you do is tap “Run” or “Pass” ,etc on the bottom of the screen – no particular type of run or pass – and the ball moves back and forth on the field – no stats, no description, etc – this would be for maybe a young person that doesn’t want much detail – anyway, I love the football games that are completely strategic – no hand eye – would love to hear from some people that like the same or if anyone knows any similar games to Tru Play
