Toobz Free
REVIEW – “Toobin’ on the iPhone with Toobz!”
Every once in a while someone comes along with an idea that just works. Off Center Software has absolutely hit the bulls-eye with this title! The basic idea of the game is that you have to control the flow of water by placing randomly generated pipes or “toobz” to carry the water either off the screen, or by stopping in with “dead end” pipes.
Now I’m sure that your sitting there thinking that what I described sounds kind of dumb. But I’m telling you that if you love games that make you think, you are going to love Toobz-free! I’m giving you a fair warning though… this game will definitely drive you absolutely crazy! It is much more difficult than it looks on paper.
When you start up this app you are first taken to the menu where you can select your game type and difficulty level. There are two game types: “Classic Toobz,” in which you see the toob that you are currently placing at the top of the screen and “Show Toobz,” where you get to see the next four pieces that you will be placing.” There is even a “free play” option where you are not timed, but you don’t score any points in “free play” mode. The various difficulty levels are made more difficult by allowing you less time to be ready before the water is turned on and adding point penalties for placing a toob in the same square more than once.
Once you enter the game, you will see a randomly placed water source that is facing in a random direction. From there, it is up to you to make sure that none of the water touches the ground. With each round you win, you will receive less time the following round to be ready for the water to come out.
I saw a couple reviews about how this game is way too easy because you can just wait for a
plug and plug up the water every time, but the thing is that you get points based on how much water flows into the pipes at the end of the round. The object is to see how many points you can get in just 5 rounds, so once the 5 rounds is up, your game is over. This makes it a constant game of wondering how much you can keep expanding your pipelines before you need to hurry and close them all up!
This game was written and designed well. My only gripe is that the artwork is not that great, but for this type of game you don’t really even notice the artwork after a while because you get so involved in the game. This is probably one of the best games I’ve seen in the app store for free, and it will bring you hours of entertainment should you choose to download it.

DEVELOPERS NOTES
Toobz-Free is a challenging, fast-paced game that brings together quick reactions, planning, and a little bit of luck.
Your goal is to create a system of “Toobz” (pipes) beginning at a randomly-placed starting point. Your Toobz network must allow water to flow without any spilling. As you advance through levels, you’ll have less and less time to place the pieces before the water startes automatically. You can start the water at any time, allowing you to quickly advance to the next level and earn extra points. If you spill any water, though, your game is over and you’ll have to try again.
Toobz-Free features two game modes: “Classic Toobz” in which only one upcoming piece is displayed, and the ne “Show Toobz” game in which the next four pieces are displayed. Each game has its own unique twist on a classic game.
Toobz features four choices for difficulty, including a new “free play” mode without a timer. Toobz saves your top ten high scores, and fully supports resuming games in progress if a phone call comes in or the Home button is pressed.
See how high of a score you can get in five rounds of play in this free version of Toobz.
