REVIEW – “Run scared or be squared!”

 

Are you looking for a game with a unique combination of fast paced action, intuitive controls, competition for the high scores, and all of this for free? Well look no further because Running Squared has all of that and more!

Once you start this app up you are taken the menu where you can either start a game, see the high score list or turn the games sounds on or off. At the bottom of this screen is a brief description of how to play.

 

Touching the “Play” button will begin a game. After the countdown you will be in control of a flashing ball on the screen. You control its movement by tilting the device from side to side. Periodically icons that look like stars pop up that will give you different amounts of points for grabbing them. There will also be squares that appear which you will have to avoid. The object is to grab as many stars as possible while avoiding the squares! If you touch a square you have to react quickly and stay inside an expanded square for 10 seconds or your game will be over!

While the simple graphics in this game may turn some off initially, Running Squared more than makes up for them with solid gameplay. On top of that there is even a global high score list that is powered by “OpenFeint”. This allows you to not only see how your scores compare to a global high score list, but also see how you match up against your friends on Facebook and Twitter. If what you are looking for in a game is just plain fun and competition, I would highly recommend this free app from Red Cabana Studios!
