Restaurant Nutrition (Free)
REVIEW—”Dining before the drive-thru, who knew?”
Restaurant Nutrition is an app that is probably better in theory than in practice. Its interface is simple and navigation is fairly self-explanatory, but the app, quite frankly doesn’t set itself apart from the other apps of its kind.
For starters, like most apps, there’s not what everyone needs and you cannot upload restaurants into your lists of menus. If your restaurant does not have an accessible menu then you just can’t read it. Also, most of the restaurants features are mainstream restaurants not necessarily restaurants where a waiter would sit down and serve you.
One thing that Restaurant Nutrition has going for it is that it is meticulous with details. If you want to know how many calories are in Arby’s signature sauce, just ask Restaurant Nutrition. Make your selects and save them and Restaurant Nutrition tracks all the nutritional facts. You can also search for foods by the number of calories they possess. If you wanted a 250 calorie salad from McDonald’s, Restaurant Nutrition could tell you if it could make your dreams come true or if you’d have to dash through a different drive-thru.
I think Restaurant Nutrition is simply good for the dieter, not someone seeking a better and healthier lifestyle or an avid athlete. Restaurant Nutrition is an app that needs just that little something extra. Perhaps, that just comes from the competitive nature in all of us that says we should be striving toward something, and I don’t get that little competitive nudge out of Restaurant Nutrition. It could also use some more explaining. If someone doesn’t know how to effectively read the back of a nutrition label, then 35.00g of iron means very little to them. And I think Restaurant Nutrition should offer some more background knowledge to reading such labels.
But if you wish to proceed with Restaurant Nutrition, and you can’t find the nearest In and Out Burger, you can map it with Restaurant Nutrition’s “Map It” feature. Overall, not an app I’d recommend. There are so many other ones out there that would be far more beneficial to your nutritional well-being.

The Restaurant Nutrition application allows a user to easily view nutritional information about restaurant menus and track what they have eaten. More menu information will be added to the database over time. Features to be released in the next version can be found at the end of this description.
The Restaurant Nutrition user can turn on diets to track calorie, carb, protein, and fat to help track and quantify their dieting progress. Each time a restaurant name appears in the program the map button near it can be touched to open the Maps application showing all of that restaurant’s nearby locations.
Multiple people can track what they eat in this application at the same time by utilizing the concept of profiles. The application can either be setup to connect to the internet, or run as a standalone application saving data entries only to the iPhone. Registered users of thePHRNetwork.com will enter their username and password, which will tie their username in Restaurant Nutrition to their account on that site. Anytime a meal is entered on the iPhone, it can be transmitted and uploaded to the website and recorded there. The Restaurant Nutrition application is available for download exclusively from the App Store.
Future Version 1.4 will include an option to sort the list of restaurants so your favorites are at the top. We are also planning on a Canada and United Kingdom version in the future.
