REVIEW – “Seeing Your Reflection”
Mirror Free is truly a joke app. When I downloaded the app, I read the description and was intrigued. I was also prepared for what it did offer and hence I was not disappointed. I knew that it was a joke and hence was not irritated. I could imagine however that if you downloaded it without reading it, you might be staring endlessly at it, waiting to see your reflection like a mirror.
Mirror Free is a free app that consists basically of a black screen with an outer picture frame. When you stare closely at it, you can see an effect similar to a mirror. That is all that it does. In fact, the app says it does not do anything. Perhaps it is that refreshing honesty that draws in users compared to the numerous apps in the Apple iTunes store that promise to deliver a lot and fail to.
However, unlike other games that have some core functionality however simple that draws in people, Mirror Free does not do so. Also while Mirror Free itself is free, it is ad-supported. Yet perhaps it is its simplicity and lack of pretension that draws people in. There is an element of mystery but Mirror Free does not offer the satisfaction of a funny sound like iFart or a visual image in iBeer. Nonetheless, the app enjoys wide popularity. I think Mirror Free’s popularity is like a viral video. You want to see it because you hear about it. The expectation draws you in and you have to see what it offers. However, it does not really disappoint because it does do what it says it will, and hence as a practical joke, it works perfectly. Nonetheless, I would prefer to have a surprise ending or option after just to prevent boredom.

Then look into the phone and see your reflection in the black background! It’s that simple! Have fun with your friends, ask your kids if they can see themselves, etc.
Just be sure to hold the iPod or iPhone at the right angle, with the right amount of light. It takes a bit of practice.
