 REVIEW – “Muscle Man”
 

The iFitness workout features a photograph of a very muscular man as its logo, which is in turn reinforced by all the images and subsequent workouts. This workout app is definitely for the man who wants to bulk up. It does not offer a full body workout or cardiovascular exercises; however, it does offer some good tips on correct form for lifting weights.

The main menu has four workouts – an abs workout, a beginner workout, an advanced workout, and a music workout. I was surprised to find Google Ads filling up a good section of each subsequent subcategory under the four workouts. Each workout had primarily one video of a very muscular man exercising in slow motion. Clicking on the music workout images provided stand alone music.


Overall, I was disappointed with this app. It had the same name as the #1 selling fitness app so I thought perhaps it was the free version of that app. However, it is not and the workouts are inadequate. The images look stretched and the “i” or information button on many pages flips to a screen without any information. While the icons for the Home and Help buttons are appealing, there is not enough information on subsequent pages to learn really good workouts for strength building. This app also appears to be focused only on men and it should say that somewhere in its terminology, title, or in the app itself. I also found that the buttons would often freeze or be slow to respond.


While I think the idea of having a strength-building specific iPhone app is terrific, this one needs a lot of work. It fails to deliver what it promises and the design has been half-hearted at best. The video is shot clearly and well, however. I suggest removing the distracting Google Ads, adding a lot more content, and changing the name, since it is not associated with the other app.
