REVIEW—”9-1-1Don’t panic! iFirst Aid Lite is at your disposal!”

iFirst Aid Lite is an app that I would say is only good as a foundation to learning First Aid. As an individual that is CPR and First Aid certified by the American Red Cross, I actually find that this app does not hit the nail right on the head.

For starters, in order to not be good Samaritan considered bad, the first rule of CPR, especially with things like the Heimlich, is to ask the individual if they are okay and then to ask if you may assist them. This allows you an individual to avoid a lawsuit. For me, this explains even further why things like CPR and First Aid should not be learned from a book or electronic application. Just like a doctor spends their time applying their textbook knowledge in the form of residency, one shouldn’t use iFirst Aid Lite and feel like an expert in CPR and First Aid.

092209 0115 iPhoneAppRe2 iFirst Aid Lite iPhone App ReviewThat being said, I feel like iFirst Aid Lite also fails to break things into appropriate categories. For instance, their section on burns is not accurate. Yes, you run cool water on first and second-degree burns, but not third degree. Those need to be immediately treated by a physicians and water could further damage the skin and infected area. There is also something to be said for having pictures present so one can differentiate between the types of burns especially between fire and chemical burns and things like sunburn. These things are treated differently and with different care. At no point does iFirst Aid Lite even tell you to apply safety gloves for your own protection as a caregiver, not even in the bleeding section. Still, it’s very important not have an exchange of bodily fluids.

iFirst Aid Lite, is an app that is good in theory, but its shortcomings could be overall detrimental to one’s safety or life. In fact, I feel like anyone interested in CPR and First Aid should seek the guidance of someone who is CPR and First Aid certified. iFirst Aid Lite is not an app I’d recommend, but try at your own risk…or someone else’s.
