REVIEW – “Dictionary! Deserves Its Exclamation Point”

 

Even without an internet connection Dictionary! will give you over 200,000 definitions. The downside to this is that the first time you open it app it has to install all those words. This does take awhile, but the app admits to that fact and promises it only has to happen one time. To keep you entertained the developers share fun trivia while the words load.

The time it takes to load the words it worth it – this allows you to access Dictionary!’s entire dictionary even when not connected to the internet. If you are connected to the internet and can’t find what you are looking for with this app, it will allow you to connect to Wiktionary to find your definition.

The definitions provided by Dictionary! are awesome. They are short, simple and to the point. If there is anything vague or unclear about what they have offered you, the developer’s have put the word into a sentence. Everything about Dictionary!’s definitions is easy to understand. Don’t expect your traditional dictionary entry. This app was created for the usability of all people.

When you type in the word you are looking for, it pops up along with entries consisting of the word you have typed. When you tap on the definition you would like, it appears on the bottom of the screen. You can view the definitions this way, which takes a little getting used to, or you can expand the definition screen for easier viewing.

The developers say that Dictionary! will help you find words that sound like other words. I couldn’t find how to access this feature. They may mean that when you search for a word they provide you with a list of words that contain your search. For example, a search of “free” shows not only “free” but: freely, freeze, freeing, freezer, freeway, freeman… and so on.

Dictionary! is simple to use, simple to understand and simply wonderful!
