Coin Brain Lite – (Free)
Version 1.0
REVIEW – “More than just change in your pocket”
When opening Coin Brain the user finds a home screen which has been crafted without using any fancy graphics software, immediately giving the impression that it was developed independently. The app itself is a game of memory, challenging the player to keep track of what coins have already been selected.
The default coin set used is the penny. After beginning, you are faced with 4 unique faces of the coin. The trick to scoring the most points is to choose only faces you have not chosen before. So if you first choose Lincoln’s head (the head side of the penny), you must not choose that one again. Once all the possible options have been chosen the game is over and you are awarded a score based on how accurate and fast you picked. The default penny set only has 6 different ones making it the easiest set in the free version. In order to ramp up the difficulty you can choose to play using Nickels or Euros, both with 8 faces to keep track of.
To change the set used in the game simply tap the options button and select the desired coin.
The score keeping part of the app is very simplistic. Scores from all 3 different sets are grouped in the same list and next to each score it is noted which coin set the score came from. Also, to return to the home screen from the game you have to tap the i in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, which isn’t the most intuitive choice. The other branches (options, help, and scores) from the main menu have a very obvious “back” button.
But the Coin Brain app is more than just a puzzle game. It has artwork from many new coins. For many collecting and learning about coins is a great fascination and even an engrossing hobby. This app gives iPhone users a way to see some new designs that they might not have been aware of yet. Perhaps future updates might include even more new coins to see and appreciate.

DEVELOPER NOTES
The Rules are simple. Select each coin image only once for the maximum points. Each Group contains a fixed number of images, and only four will be displayed at a time. At least one of the displayed images has not been selected before, and the others will be randomly placed. Once you have selected the last image in the group, the scoring is over. You can get bonus points if you select quickly. You will lose points if you select an image you have already selected.
Use the Options to select which group you want to use. You can select multiple groups (but not in the Lite version) so you can find a good number of images that is challenging for you. The items in the top score list can be expanded to show more detail about the score. The maximum point total is 3 per coin. So if you can get 18 points on the penny group (6 images) you are truly awesome.
