Binaural Beats (Free)
REVIEW—”Music is therapy anyone can get down to.”
Binaural Beats has got to be my favorite type of medicine. It’s funny. As a kid my mother use to always tell me that I’d study better if I turned off my music, but I have always insisted that it helps me channel my energy into my work and avoid outside distractions. I guess she saw music as that distraction, but I think Binaural Beats might be the deciding factor in this ongoing debate. With a simple and easy to navigate interface, Binaural Beats gets the job done. Still, I feel the need to note that its interface is not visually unappealing, just simple.
Having trouble sleeping? Listen to the “calm ocean with occasional seagulls calling.” Or in my case, need a study aid? Binaural Beats is at your disposal. While many of the sounds might sounds similar, if you listen long enough you’ll begin to hear the difference and a surge of understanding and ease seem to flow through you.
Binaural Beats is unique in that it allows the user to control the amount of time they would like hear the melodic sounds. It can be anywhere from 1 minute to 24 hours, literally! With a musical interface that mimics that of iTunes, you can also fast forward through the sounds because they do change over time and are not the same 15 seconds of sound on repeat. Play and pause as you please.
You are also not limited to the default sounds that come with the app, simply select to add a new sound and you can choose from a variety of noises from Autumn Wind and Soft tide to Underwater. Perhaps the coolest thing with Binaural Beats has to offer is that you can record and create your own sounds from your surroundings. I particularly enjoy the sound of running water. This is definitely an app worth downloading!

How it works:
Binaural beats may influence functions of the brain besides those related to hearing. This phenomenon is called frequency following response. The concept is that if one receives a stimulus with a frequency in the range of brain waves, the predominant brain wave frequency is said to be likely to move towards the frequency of the stimulus (a process called entrainment). In addition, binaural beats have been credibly documented to relate to both spatial perception & stereo auditory recognition, and , according to the frequency following response, activation of various sites in the brain.

Great write up ! Music therapy is a popular and growing field for good reason: music can reduce stress, aid health, and carry many health benefits, and those who practice music therapy can harness the power of music to help their clients relieve pain, reduce stress and anxiety, and see many other benefits. In day to day’s busy life Binaural Beats help us to regain freshness of mind and removing stress. The Iphone is an excellent apparatus with amazing sound quality and I frequently use my iphone to hear binaural beats and get releif.
