After the Siege #1 (Free)
REVIEW—”Zombie stories never get old!”
While I’ve never been a fan of the age-old zombie tale, excluding Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” After the Siege is a good book for zombie lovers.
“There was a far away sound like thunder. A smell like the dead wafted off the slightest breeze overhead. Followed by an icy cold wind and a blast of heat.” As a writer, I particularly enjoy the writer’s attention to details in text. It really allows the reader to feel the character and the character’s environment. It’s nice to connect to a book if only for a few seconds.
The author keeps you track of time by noting what day or how many weeks into the siege the characters have found themselves. Still, I find it somewhat unnecessary, because there doesn’t appear to be real intervals of time that are important to note.

I think it’s really interesting that that author addresses the idea of war and how the characters respond. To me, After the Siege, comes across as a not so subtle response to the war that Americans are currently fighting abroad and how that effects those of different classes and genders. Still, it’s interesting to think of in this context because by manner and dress the story appears to be taking place in perhaps the late 40s to early 50s. It’s all very interesting and could of great interest to those who are political minded or interested in warfare. Also to those who enjoy a book that encourages critical thought and leisure. Often times those words are disconnected and books are viewed as an escape from thought, but if you enjoy a challenge and find that to be a good pastime then this book is definitely for you.
As an application, I find the only qualm I have is that After the Siege isn’t as touch screen friendly as I would prefer it to be. It’s not as sensitive to touch as other books I’ve read. Aside from that, I think After the Siege was great and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in zombies, social critiques, politics, or warfare.
