I have played several bowling apps, but the graphics and physics engine of this game are one of the best that I have seen. Kronos Games has put a lot of work into this and it shows!
When you open this app up you are greeted by a couple of cool splash screens that are very sharp and professional and then dropped off at the menu. From here it is easy to setup and customize a control scheme that works for you.
I will have to admit when I played my first game, the controls seemed pretty difficult, but this only adds to the game. It’s not just another one of those games that you can figure out a “formula” that will get you a strike every time. Every little detail in your shot counts.
Another thing that I have seen in a lot of other bowling apps is a lack of a decent physics engine. In some bowling apps it is almost impossible to pick up a split, because the pins just don’t fall naturally, and even when they do they somehow manage to go through other pins without knocking them down. That is never the case with this app.
Overall, Action Bowling has managed to improve the iPhone/iPod Touch bowling experience and bring it to a level that I had not yet experienced. Something that would have been nice is to maybe have animated bowling characters or something like that as well, but I’m probably just being too picky, as this app is truly superior to most of the other bowling apps in the App Store. If you really like this game and want more I would highly recommend that you download the full app! The full version is only $2.99 and offers not only more lanes, but also customizable bowling balls and a whole bunch of other great features!
