REVIEW—”A Christmas Carol is never out of season!”
A Christmas Carol is one of my absolute favorite books, even though it used to scare me to bits as a child. iFlow has put together an app that gets the job done. With a simple interface, reading is easy, but makes it an app that might not appeal to the younger audience that likes illustrations to accompany text, even if it’s over few pages. Still, I like the way BeamItDown has designed this app.
This Dickens’ classic has been divided into five staves, or chapters, so the reader could always come back to the general area that they were reading from should they lose their place. However, iFlow has also designed this app to save your place should you close the book to check your email, change music tracks or other things of that nature.
With an iFlow feature, BeamItDown allows this app to be as hand free as possible. Readers do not have to constantly run their fingers up and down the screen in order to navigate their way through the book. They can simply tap the top of the screen to go up a page or tap the bottom of the screen to go down to the next page. The most amazing feature is literally the flow. If you tilt your iPod or iPhone away from you, the text will ascend upward and the book flows in a steady stream so you don’t have to navigate. You can even make the flow slower or faster which is great for the fast and slow reader alike.
Overall, I’d say BeamItDown Software created an app that meets the needs of the reader and even adds a little something extra here and there to spice things up. If you are one that enjoys reading long text pieces in digital form, A Christmas Carol comes highly recommended.
