082809 2238 iPhoneAppRe2 iPhone App Review – 3D Checkers 3D Checkers is a game released by Koduco, and can be played against a friend, or against the computer AI. It is not extremely flashy, and does not have any hidden game modes, but can offer hours of entertainment for people that enjoy a good game of checkers.

The first thing you will notice about this app is that it is, of course, in 3D. Unlike most free checker’s apps in the app store, more time was spent on the look of the board and the pieces. When you open the app you are greeted by the menu screen. From here you can easily start a game by pressing “Play” in the bottom left corner, change the look of the game board, and set the game type or even turn the “Force Jumps” rule on or off.

082809 2238 iPhoneAppRe3 iPhone App Review – 3D Checkers Game play works exactly as you would expect. You simply touch and drag your piece to the square where you want to move. Doing multiple hops is just as easy, you just have to drag your piece to each square you move to and then let go at the end. The computer AI is smart, but the different levels of difficulty offer enough variation that even a novice can enjoy a good game of checkers against it.

The “More” button from the main screen will also take you to a screen where you see your best “score” which is the fewest moves it has taken you to beat the computer, and links to send feedback on the app to the developers

082809 2238 iPhoneAppRe4 iPhone App Review – 3D Checkers After playing with this app for a while it is obviously a must have for anyone that really enjoys checkers. The interface is quick and smooth and the computer AI is tough, but not so tough you cannot win. The only thing I would have liked to see, that is not included in this app, is the ability to play games via an internet connection or a Bluetooth link with other users, but that is probably more than should ever be asked of a free app. With that said, this is a must have app for all those that enjoy a good game of checkers!
