REVIEW – “VOIP calling made easy!”
There have been quite a few apps that have offered the ability to make calls using Voice Over IP services. Because of the fact I was kind of wondering what Acrobits offers that some of the free alternatives do not. If you’re as curious as I was, read on!
When you open this app you are taken directly to the dialing keypad. Before you’re ready to go though you’ll first need to set up what VOIP service you will be using. You can do this by pressing the “Settings” button in the upper right corner. From here You just have to select “SIP Accounts” and then either select your service provider from the list you see there, or touch “Generic SIP Account” if your provider is not listed.
Once you have your VOIP account setup, there are a variety of options available to you. So I’m sure you’re asking the question now, “what does this app offer that others do not?” What it offers is first ease of use. I was able to set up an account in literally seconds and have it up and running. All of your contacts are automatically imported, and it even offers a “QuickDial” list for numbers that you call all of the time, and a “History” list of your most recent calls.
The other thing that this app offers is the ability to record your voice conversations. This feature works seamlessly and is easy to manage. In the settings menu you can choose whether to record all of your phone conversations, whether to record them with one or two channels, how long to keep the recordings, you can even set it to beep every so often to remind the other party that the conversation is being recorded.
All of the features of this app worked flawlessly, and I would definitely recommend this app if you have any reason for wanting to record phone conversations. Now, I will preface all of this by saying that if you plan on making and recording a lot of phone calls VOIP services are not free. There are a few that offer limited “free” calling, but very little and usually there is a catch. With that said, if you are aware of the costs of VOIP service, and just want a way to do it directly from your mobile phone, I would definitely recommend Acrobits Softphone!
