Something that I’ve always enjoyed are good typing games. One website that I visit from time to time is typeracer . com. On their website you compete against people all around
the world in a test of typing speed. Your speed is represented by cars that move at the rate that you are typing.
Well, just the other day I decided to see what their website looked like on my iPad for some reason. to my surprise the typeracer website is fully iPad compatible! There are two minor things to make a note of. The first is that when a race starts your cursor will not automatically highlight in the box like on a desktop PC so you’ll have to touch it to get started. The second thing is that you’ll want to go into your iPad’s keyboard settings and disable the “auto-capitalization” feature because it will try to capitalize every word and make it almost impossible to type. Besides that everything works great!
If you’re not already familiar with typeracer it is a great way to improve your typing because it uses a variety different quotes to type, and it allows you to create a login and track your progress over time. You can also invite your friends and compete against them if you like!
Over the last few days of using typeracer on my iPad I have increased my typing speed from about 40wpm all the way up to about 55wpm. That’s almost a 40% increase in speed in less than a week! But don’t just take my word for it, point your browser over to typeracer.com and start typing faster today!

Hey David, thanks for the write-up! Amazing that you’re able to type 55 wpm on the iPad now! My first few attempts resulted in about 20 wpm.
I’m glad you described how to turn-off the auto-cap feature. How are you finding the punctuation? I still can’t get used to having all the signs on the flip-side of the keyboard on the iPad.
Yea, it’s been a great help to me as I learn to adjust to the iPad’s software keyboard. The way I do punctuation is kind of a “sliding” motion. If you touch the button to switch keyboards, you can drag your finger from there to the punctuation and then let off. When you do it will type that character and switch right back to the regular keyboard.
It’s a lot of fun though. Much more challenging than just using a regular keyboard!
If you’re curious to see my progress, I started a new account that I only use with my iPad. My name is iPadPwner.
