This is a great app for anyone who loves to text but does not want to rack up those texting charges or go over their text limit for the month. iMessenger works just like a chat messenger but sends texts to your friends just like a real text (provided they are using an iphone or an ipod touch).
What I like about this app is that it does work completely like a regular messenger app. You simply log in and you will be immediately taken to a listing of your contacts and then all you have to do is click the name and get right to messaging them.
You can even send pictures through text just as if you were sending a picture text but without the charge (there is a one-time fee with the app to send picture messages but it is free to receive them), which is also a nice feature as well. The interface is simple to use and you never have to worry about paying a service fee.
The other great thing about this app is that it does have push notifications so you do not have to be signed in in order to receive messages. If a friend sends you a text then it will pop up on your screen letting you know who has texted you along with a brief look at the message sent. 
Now this may seem like little more than a messenger client for the iphone and that is exactly what it is. But unlike apps that require everyone to have aim or yahoo, or that do not offer push notifications, all that is required for this app is that you have an iphone or an ipod touch and spend the two seconds required to sign up.
I love to text so this is a great app for me and my friends (most of us have joined in on the iphone bandwagon) and I think that the interface is smooth enough that I do not feel bothered by having to use a separate app to text and communicate with everyone.
Another interesting feature about this app is that you can chat with people without ever giving out your phone number. The app allows you to create a username when you sign up and then you simply give out your username to anyone that you wish to message you or vice versa. This means you can communicate with people all over the world without having to worry about who is getting your cell phone number.
The app also allows you to post status messages so you don’t have to worry about getting a bunch of texts at a time when you don’t want them which is also a nice feature. Something else I like is that when you send a message to someone else you will get a D next to the message to let you know that it has been delivered and then an R next to the message to let you know that it has been read. It is a great way to know if people are getting the information without them always having to confirm it.
Overall I think for constant texters this might be a great solution especially if you have not signed up for an unlimited texting plan.
(Note: with the free version you will have ads in some places, they are not a big deal but if you want to get rid of them it is $.99)

* New device? Don’t want to lose all of your contacts? iMessenger takes care of everything. Upon registration of your username, iMessenger collects a password from you along with your username choice. This was, if you get a new device, you can launch iMessenger and login with your existing account.
